The final product won't look like this, but I was playing around with the lighting and sort of liked the graphical look of this one:

cool.
i would expect more chrome on a deco building...and seems a little thin for some reason.
not sure about neon sign part...the shape is fine..but colour, font seem off...but haven't got an alternative afraid.
also how about a different colour marble coming out from the doorway to the archway poles..slightly raised maybe. how about changing all the red stuff to black...? dunno up to you bud.

(doesn't deco stuff sometime have figurative stuff on the outside sometimes...like a female dancing with scarves...or a lion...or even egyptian stuff....also geometric stuff....dunno can remember...)

that said...its pretty damn cool...whats it for then?

Looking good. If anything though, I would add more colors to it. Art Deco is very colorful, the more monochromatic similar style is Art Moderne.

Also... It needs some way cool streamlined light fixture on the outside.

(Art deco is my favorite architectural style :bounce: )

great image, only a few crits.

it is a little too skinny so that instead of deco it almost looks like an apartment building in the inner parts of mexico city. I would fatten it out a bit to make it look less cramped and inner city.

Also the colors seem to be off slightly as fred said make them more varied and brighter, looks a little like a 50's building now.

any way great great building dude. with a little tweaking this will be awesome.

Thanks for all the great crits, guys. I agree with all of 'em--wider, livelier colors, more ornamentation.

Regarding the sign, I think it's just hard to see in this small render. The font is consistent with the art deco style, but I'd have preferred one more overtly deco. Unfortunately the cheapest one I could find that fit the bill cost $50--and it was too thin at that.

More to come....

Possible fonts - Avenida, Bauhaus or HotelModerne - but I guess these will probably all cost something :(

Have you tried bubblegum pink with sky blue for that over-the top american diner deco style - for example

To be honest it's looking pretty good already!

Adam, there's a wonderful site (which has great links to other sites) on Deco architecture.

http://www.decopix.com/

You've got many great elements on this already.
