View Full Version : character rigging IRC chat

I've posted this one under character rigging also.... but perhaps some of you aren't there all the time. I hope that was ok.
I have now setup an IRC channel called #CharacterSetup on the irc.freenode.net network. There is already a channel there called #cgtalk as some of you know. But I felt that perhaps we would also need a #CharacterSetup channel.
You need an IRC client to access this.
MAC OS X: http://www.ircle.com
Linux: http://xchat.org/ (should come with your distro)
In the commandbar type:
More info about freenode and how to use IRC you can find at http://www.freenode.net/
We'll see if the channel survives or not :)
chat with you all later!

I didn't know there was a CGTalk channel either. I'm - 1 guess now - ObsidianPC in there now.

Hmmm... I don't understand - how to connect? I've installed irc, in "servers" I add the server "irc.freenode.net" and then in the channel prompt I have typed "/j CharacterSetup" - I'm in, but there's nobody there... Maybe I have choosed something wrong?

U know..one of the best places for starting your first char. rig is all in the Instant Maya help tutorials included with Maya. You should looke there:surprised

[09:22] #cgtalk unable to join channel (address is banned)
I use the first IRC-server mentioned
and the second one did not let me connect at all.
I am using MIRC under winXP and obviosly AOL as internet provider.
why not a channel on IRcnet or EFnet ? There is a channel totaly ruled by polish people on IRCnet named MAYA but hey It is the only alternative at the moment if you are into 3D and maya it seems.

I don't like IRC's because this is how I got my first nastiest virus of all. You wouldn't have a newsgroup forum would you?

besides this one?
maybe in order to make the thread more useful, propose a set time and days(with also the GMT included) so that we all can meet up and discuss on rigging
I do apologise if I necroed this thread up

I agree, it would be great if people used the chat room - would be fun and helpful. Let's set the best times to meet!
04-17-2006, 01:29 AM
I'm in the channel now.
05-27-2007, 11:20 AM
Totally agree on that we should set a time, or probably two times(time difference) when people can/should log on and discuss. Otherwise I don't think the channel will survive.
I suggest 8pm PST and 8pm GMT

hi people this is a great idea, im pritty much always infront of my pc so will be on there from usually 10am in the morn till 2am the next morning GMT time, so if you need help i should be around :)
also do you guys know if there are any more channels like this for modelers, etc, i think it would be great to get lots of people on there. I mean forums are great and cgtalk is the best, but irc can be instant for help!

This is anand..
i have a problem in modeling.
when i apply smooth the polygons and very often in some areas
it appears little bit patchy, hard end.. i could see the polygons are not
smoothened properly. i tried to pull and push the vertices, up and down.
but im quiet unsuccessful.. would you please anybody tell how to fix this?
i would appreciate.
