View Full Version : After effect + Maya + Boujou
wolfhammer 05-29-2008, 09:39 PM Hi,
1. I tracked a footage (5seconds long 720x576 @ 25fps) using Boujou4.1
2. Everything went smoothly and exported it to Maya.
3. I added some cg objects in maya and played 150 frames. It synchronized perfectly
4. I then rendered 150 frames (with alpha channel)
5. Imported the original footage and rendered images into AE cs3.
6. Interpreted the sequece at 25 fps
7. Made a new composition with the sequence and footage.
The problem in after effects is the whole composition is out of sync. Why is it so well synchronized in Maya and not in After Effects. I have been trying for days with all sorts of footages and all are out of sync. What am i doing wrong? Can someone please help me.

Most matchmoving software defaults to frame 0 as the first frame instead of frame 1. So just offset the animation on the camera by 1 frame.

 Thank you very much. I don't know why I couldn't think of it. It was such a small issue.
For anyone else with the same problem while rendering in Maya set the start frame to 0.000
and end frame to whatever the matchmoved sequence length.

i still have a lot of times problems with importing to AE.
so i do perfect tracks in boujou. then i export it as maya(AE). then i import the composition . in that composition i add the original footage.
to frame 1. and it doesnt work.

Framerate mismatch? Different field interpretation? Check again.

ICE BOY. Like mentioned in the top threads you should do the following:
(First let us not export Maya Camera into AE as that is a whole new topic. If anyone knows how it is done properly please let me know too. I never had much success)
1. When Exporting your tracked footage from Boujou export as "Maya 4+" not as After Effects (Maya) ... it may be my lack of knowledge but i feel like the plugin has a bug!! anyway.....
Oh yeah--> One more thing in Boujou. Make sure your axis are correct.
Goto Edit--->Preferences--->3d Display....Preferred Camera Orientation...this should be Y-UP Z-Back for Maya (Z-uP for 3ds Max).
2. Run Maya
2. Open (not import) the .ma file you exported from Boujou.
3. Then goto Render Settings and change the Start Frame to 0 and end to whatever your movie length.
4.Add your CG elements and view thru your Camera_1_1 (the boujou camera name in Maya,You may also want to change to Resolution Gate in Camera Settings)
5. Play the animation. It should sync.
6 Batch Render (as tga, tiff, png whatever) and import the files in AE.
7. Depending upon your footage Frame Rate , right click the Animation file in the project window in AE and goto interprete footage. Set the current framerate to match your original camera footage you used to track in boujou.(default is 30; I use 25 as my camcorder is PAL)
8. Play the movie. It should sync perfectly.
