hi everyone.

any suggestions or steps on how to rig a blooming flower and crawling vines?

need to setup a rig for timelapse growing cg plants, flowers and vines for a tvc.

what application are you using?

I'd look at Houdini...specifically it's L-System SOP

that's cool Asa..but unfortunately, im using Maya.

The flower will start as a bud and then will bloom as realistic as possible. Anyone had an experience doing similar setup using Maya?

thanks Arctor. Well, L system is one of my options too.. the thing is i don't know how to setup those using houdini.. is there any way i could setup the rig inside maya alone?

Hey Asa, I saw that hair you did in your demo reel, are you using Max springs in there, or did you code your own spring system?

Why not make it less difficult on yourself and use Vue Infinite to grow, decay, and rebirth with preset sliders offered in such an application? You can use Vue Xstream to pipeline scenes into Maya if you want to render it in that app.

Asa rig was good but a bit on the time consuming side compared to what you can do in Vue. Also you can apply localized influences with ventilator effects to produce wind simulations on plants.

I use Lightwave and greebles and nurnies plugin (i think thats what its called - I am sure its called another name) to make vines grow onto objects within the initial application.

If you dont have Vue, I would use a spline IK rig to easily have control over your plants. Tie them onto a null for control purposes and use expressions to use rotational values of the null as a controller (stuff like open and close rather keying every moment of a flower opening and closing). Kind of like set driven keys onto a plant if you will.

I am sure there are other approaches. I am just a lazy animator and choose not to key everything per frame if there are easier methods.

Hope that provides ideas...I know its not the entire help you need for the methods I speak of does not involve Maya.
