Hi Great image so far... I.m just not too convinced with the spheres though, somehow they jump out of the image. Maybe you need to create a little depth with the ones in the back... A little tweaking with hue and saturation would improve it a lot. Do the same with the ones in front... since the mid one has a shaded area and the one in the foreground has not, it kinda looks flat.
Just my two cents... overall a good one. :D

Yeah, agree with Nick. They don't quite sit in there just yet. And I would maybe make them bigger and have one as a main focus. Also not real convinced on the lighting/sky just yet, but good start and nice work. :D

You need to match the depth of field with the water to create a 3d effect

Hey Nadz
Those sphere you got there, im guessing their 3d. Your values are off bud. The blacks are darker thr further they get from the camera, that is the opposite of what should be happening. The one in the front should have the most contrast out of those spheres and it should lose it the further it gets back. This is a ocean scene so most likely there is alot of haze or mist comming off of it. Play around with your levels and post a update!

Thanks for the input everyone. Not sure if spheres are working for me or against me. Might
replace them with some land structure like those in Thailand and Viet Nam. As far as sky and water goes it's a shot I took as a winter storm was passing thru. Here's the original shot.

See if this works for you. It would be easier if i had your .psd heh, But i just did a lasso and level adjustment.

I killed the blacks a bit on those distant spheres and added a lil environmental haze.
Steve, Thanks for doing your magic. I now know what you were talking about, sometimes you just are blind to what you are working on. Appreciate it !

Nice one steve! I wish somebody would do that to my images... It helps a lot.
Nadz: Don't worry about being blind, it happens to the best of us, thats why there are forums like this so that we can help each other out. cheers bud

yeah, sdinozzi's change about the depth was really important, but I would also suggest that you bring all elements in your image together more. the colours seem a bit off, your sky has way more blues than the forground rocks have. The spheres too look kind of greyish. Also if you look at the forground rocks, you see a lot of hard shadows, but if I look at the sky I would assume that the light situation in your image should be a lot more diffuse. I'd definitely suggest to repaint the rocks a bit to remedy that.
Keep it up, I am curious to see the progress and where you will take it!

I think your image is definately improving with each update. The one thing that seems a bit off to me is the lighting / texture on the foreground rocks. I think the floating spheres concept is very interesting though.

Good job on updating the value perspective, the background spheres look more in place now, but what is bugging me is the foreground one. I think what it is is simply that the shadows in the foreground sphere do not match the values of the surrounding context - I'd try a curves adjustment to accentuate the shadow contrast and perhaps a hue shift so it matches the sea a little more. Something else I think that is key is the sense of scale - the intricacy of the design implies this thing is the size of the Death Star but in reality according to your visual its about 100 metres wide. Perhaps by putting something in like a flock of birds may help give a sense of scale to the piece and add a little dynamism as the birds are scared off by these big spheres rising out the ground.
Keep going!
