View Full Version : Layered Shader and PSD networks??
cheeseskins 05-28-2008, 08:20 PM Evening all, got a little issue, that must be very common, that I'm having a little trouble getting my head around. I have a peice of geometry that I want to have a skin shader on that I've created but on top of this I want to put some nice shiny text, probably using a blinn. Now my plan of attack was make a layered shader, pop the skin shader and blinn on, then in the UV editor create a PSD network and control all the various colours and transparancy's via that. Seems however, unless I'm doing something wrong, this isn't possible, as in the UV editor the only matierial you get options for are the layered shader and not the layered shader and the skin and blinn shader.
So is my intended workflow wrong and I'm going at this from the wrong angle?
All and any tips most welcome!
Cheers guys.

Anyone got any ideas on what I'm sure is a simple issue?

I'm not a %100 percent sure I understand your problem. Your object has 2 seperate sets of UV's, one for the text and one for the skin? If so I think you should be OK. Go to your relationship editor and and select "texture centric UV linking." You link the UV's and Textures, not the materials. So even though they both feed into a layered shader, you should be ok.
I just tried this out. One you feed all your materials into your layered shader. Your UV relationship editor will show your UV's and your texture nodes. Might be handy to name all your file nodes for your textures appropriately so you can see them easier.
Again, not sure I understood your problem, but if I did, I hope this helps.
