The monkey doesnt quite seem to have enough weight. I think he would swing a bit lower and probably a bit slower, then actually reach a bit further to grab the branch. On one occasion, when it lets go, it doesnt seem to drop or shift weight at all (nearer the end).

I think that the monkey could show a lot more weight. I think he should really have to "catch" himself, and go into a really stretched pose where all his body weight is going down. And maybe the branch could shake some more. I also think it looks a bit like he's floating in some places. There should probably be a few frames when neither hand is touching the tree at the peak of his swing. If he jumps a little farther on each swing, it will make him look like he's really trying to go somewhere.

just my ideas

Here's a few critiques from me.

He should always have one hand on the branch at the pace he's going.
The way you have it the hand that was on the branch starts releasing before the other hand has grabed onto the branch. He would fall pretty quick.
You should also have his arms almost fully extended the whole time. Have him moving forward from rocking his momentum forward instead of bending his arms and powering his way. I think it would look more fluid and arcy.
Those are a few things ive noticed.. one more check.
...
O on second glance I noticed the stride near the middle of the frame looks really shortend due to the perspective.
Its kinda distracting.

Those the things ive noticed, all around its pretty good.
Lets see an update. :)

Monkey's are small, quick, and very strong.

I don't see much more you can do for this clip. They really do push and pull themselves, rather swing when they are on the move like that.

Good work, but i think that the tail is too static. A monkey use his tail to keep balance.

thanks everybody,

the problem i was having is that ref i have shows so much strength and not so much weight - i wanted to get rid of the floating by showing more strength but..?? - i have a clip where monkey almost stops himself mid swing and then throws himself forward, never straightening his arm - if i animated like that it would never fly....

i will leave it i guess, maybe i will extend the branch vibes a little longer and the tail needs the most work, i may just delete it cause im lazy and some monkeys have no tail.

well heres more monkey anyway: monkey_2.mov 2.5 Mb (http://miketrujillo.com/monkey_2.mov)
