Hey guy/girls, I hope you can help me as I'm pulling my hair out!
Something is going wrong with my texture before I've even used it. I'm using the same method as all my other textures that have worked fine, Save UV snapshot, take it to photoshop to work on it, then save as jpeg (with no compression etc..).
Problem is, my texture now looks like this in the hypergraph (*see attached). If I go into textured view in the viewport, I can see the texture fine if it's applied to a lambert etc.. But if I plug it into a switch, it just won't work!

I've taken the same jpeg over to my linux box in maya 8.5 (the machine it won't work on is a Mac Maya 2008) and it works fine, well, it doesn't show up like this in the hypergraph anyway, I haven't tried plugging it into a switch yet...

Has anyone come accross this before? And what should I do about it?
Thanks for any help!
Christian

P.s. I've tried flattening the image in photoshop, removing alphas, saving as tiffs and tga's etc.. Still the same icon in the hypershade...

To my exp if the texture size is too big, It can not display in preview node

Cheers, these are only 2k, but i'll put them down to 1k and see.
In the mean time I have taken the drastic measure of screen grabbing the JPG and that seems to make it show in the hypergraph and also it will work in the viewport.

BUT, I've got two objects, a body and door of a car. I've made a switch utility and piped in the two textures for each one. On render (in mental ray only, for some reason software works) it will do the door fine but the body just renders out the default colour!

This is driving me up the wall, does anybody know whats going on?
Thanks
Christian

right click on the texture node and hit refresh swatch.

Go to Window/Preferences/Display and check for Max. res. for swatches.

Thanks guys, I think it was a mix of problems.
For some reason thumbnails won't be shown in the hypershade if the textures too big, which is a pain (I'll try refreshing tomorrow, thanks). But anyway, I had opened the scene up on another computer that had then put some funky nodes in there that were clashing. Once i'd exported just the geo and re-did the shaders everything seems to work!

Thanks everyone!
Christian
