Im running After Effects CS3 on my college's computers and the problem I'm running into is that I cannot install plugins into the plugins folder as the Program Files directory is locked off from write access.

What I do have write access to is the desktop and anything in my account's documents and settings folder (ex. My Documents).

I was wondering if anyone knew how to have AE check for a plugin in a location other than adobe/aecs3/support/plugins

Nope, not on Windows. You will have to have physical access to the pertinent directories. You can only resolve folder Aliases on Macs, but I believe even that is problematic as it does not work with all plugins. The only other alternative is the MediaCore common folder, but it presents you with the same problem - it is located in Program Files/Common Files/Adobe and thus inaccessible in your configuration it would seem.
