View Full Version : Poly to SubD Issue

After converting an object back to poly it appears that a duplicate object was created on top of the original. I can edit both in sub-object mode, but in object mode it treats it as one object.

Has anyone had this problem or know what it might be?

Thanks,
Matt

When you convert the object from sub-d to poly, open the option box. There should be a radial button option called "origional object" set to "replace" not "hide" or "show." If "replace" is selected, the origional sub-d object will be deleted and the new polygon object will appear, eliminating any chance for the two objects to have a connected history.

I shouldn't have said duplicate, because that's not what it is. It has duplicate vertices, edges and faces, but it is one object.

The outliner should let you select the offending object by itself, so use that to select and delete! ;)

I'm not sure what is causing duplicate vertices without a duplicate object, sounds strange. When you select the object, open the hypergraph and select Graph> view upstream and downstream connections. Are there some funny connections there that look like they don't belong? What happens when you delete those connections?

If you're looking for the offending object in the outliner, select the object, open the outliner and press "f" it should find the problem object for you in the outliner automatically.

I have had this problem before too. Make sure that when you convert the subd surface to polygons that you are in normal mode and not polygon proxy mode. For some reason when I convert a subd in polygon proxy mode to polygons, the control cage is stays along with the newly created polygon.

I wish there was a fix. I seem to do this quite often. Especially after a few coffees.
