Cool Idea ; ) Just the perspective and proportion of the left leg seems to have some problems. The crowd and the red figures are nice as well!

good to see you spending so much effort. The face is very nice. The legs and the main body are a bit flat though. There are a lot of little hue and color transitions that are really hard to even see. But they still define form. For example check the legs they get a bit lighter to the left side.
fischkopf:
your image reminds me of the recent 100 meter olympia final. Your figure is very relaxed like Usain Bolt.

TEDNINDO: your waiter sketch is awesome for a 8min sketch... if you would have turnt his right arm (POV waiter) further to the back, we would sense more of a 3Dimensional feel. Also it would have helped to place the tablet further away from his body to create a stronger silhouette. watch contrapost!
TEDNINDO: the soccer player looks good. for this pose, his eye-direction is crucial. it kinda breaks the clear line-of-action of the pose, which expresses the determination of the soccer player and adds lots of personality, so make sure we see the eyes clearly.
GOATRAPE: elephant - love the colors and textures... the lighitng looks appears to be a little flat, maybe because of the sharp, clear outlines of the elephant.
GOATRAPE: the soccer player looks very dynamic and it has a very sincere and realistic feel.

CHRIS: love your fire fighters... great style and nice poses =) too bad the fire cant keep up with the level of quality... happy to see so much work of yours here.. ! =)
CHRIS: you waiter has a very nice style to it too. watch the ballance, he seems to tilt over. it might help you to flip your drawinig once in a while in progress, as it reveals some distortions our hand-eye-coordination likes to fool us with. i would suggest a bit more construction in hope your style wont suffer from it, as its a very distingtive style hence 'very you'.
CHRIS: for your soccer player its the same as its for the others... the eye direction is not clear enough also watch his ballance.
donom: wish you would have finished that painting, it shows so much potential.

08-27-2008, 02:13 PM
Yeah, I had a big problem with the fire. I experimentet with a few brushes but nothing sadisfied me. I wished I knew a way to give the flames a more livelike appearance. It should look like a glowing menacing creature.
Concerning the people, I will try to break up my style a bit. It´s my pencil-black-and-white style, it´s kind of locked in my sketching moves. As soon as I had a little bit practice with the wacom it appeared. It´s working for me, when I sketch on paper, but I´m afraid for digital painting, I need something new. Gotta rush trough a few tutorials and try other methods.
ryokun
08-27-2008, 02:46 PM
CHRIS: I am still dealing with those wacom issues too... Patrick suggested the black tip for the wacom pen that comes with the tablet, its suppose to feel more like graphite and I taped normal paper onto the wacom surface. this way it feels a lot more like paper, obvioulsy... it works better for me.

LuisPe:
Hello and welcom to the thread.
BlackBerkut:
Well time doesn't matter I say that every no and then. If I think back I wish we wouldn't have called that thread daily speedpainting. We should have called it Daily practice drawing or something like that. Then it is more important that you do paint in whatever timeframe. You learn something every time.
All:
The volleyball picture was quite hard. Allmost in every drawing/painting there are problems with the upper body part and or the right arm. Most of the time the upper body is drawn to long. I think its becaus of the strong deformation in the orignial. It is very important to compare your drawing with the reference as often as possible. Try to set points in your and think lines between these. Compare the angle and distance. For example the left elbow is aprox. on the hight of the upper pants boarder. This will help to get closer to the pose of the reference.

For today lets take this little exercise:
Imagine that girl walking to a rendez-vous. Then suddenly a short but heavy cloudburst takes her by surprise.
Render her during or after that happening. Take one of the three poses or create your own one.

Hey all,
Have been working along with this thread for a while now. I have been using it as a tool to get familiar with the software. Want to thank those that have kept this thread running. Here are some earlier images. I am not that fast so these were typically 1-2 hours.

Yet more from the archives...
I attempted to make a more dynamic pose for the gladiator, because he wouldn't stand a chance against Maximus Decimus Meridius standing like that.
Perhaps a little too ambitious for my knowledge of anatomy.

its always quite complicated to review what i`ve done, because I am new to speedpaintings and especially working with a wacom - so my painting techniques are different from picture to picture.
Hmm, but I think that I first painted the background in a dark green, put some highlights on it and then used a brush, in different greentones, were the strokethickness and opacy depends on the pen pressure. On a new layer I painted the colorful top with maybe 70% smoothness and, by repeatedly decreasing the opacy, also more highlights on the grass.

Nice work everyone, I really enjoy the colours and technique for the Osprey, Remton. It came out rather well for the speed of the piece.
This seems to be a nice thread to develop skill and speed for the production environment :).

Nice work Shapemaster, and definately for the time that you took on it. The flow is nice, but I see, what you mean about the colour. I do like the dynamic flow of the figure. On your Osprey, I see what you mean, and I don't do enough Mechanical pieces anymore. I do think that you got the idea and colour down. It does feel in motion as well.
Thank you ofr the welcome Ted, and I do hope to post more, as I really need it. *chuckles*

Nice start on your painting. You kept the warm tones well within the piece. :)
Here is my attempt, about 50 to 55 minutes in photoshop cs. I tried to use the same brush as practice. It would have been shorter, but I noticed that the angle of the head was off. Doh!! It still seems to be. Any critiques would definatley be welcome. :)

Gosh, everyone is so good. I'm embarrassed of posting T_T
Irony:
Since the painting is about a beheading, it was only fair that one of my mistakes was to "cut" the back of her skull ><
Unfortunately, I only realized after resizing in photoshop.

hey aethalin wow the resemblence is awesome how did you do that? And I have to say that I like the way you blended the colors. I just have a tipp for you don't know if its helpfull or not. Just set your bursh like that for coloring: hard round brush - pressur sensitiv to flow and opacity. That works fine for me.
And next time when you last minute scale or move the head, get rid of the boarders. :D
welcome leath to this forum. Please don't feel embarrassed by the stuff of others it is here to learn. And there is no need to be embarressed because your sketch is very nice. Good resemblence and I feel that this is way harder with a pencil on paper.
The cin is maybe a little bit to long.
About the backhead. I really had the same problem like you because the head disapears into the black on the painting and the skull seems to short.
