Hello. May I ask a queation?

How's a difference between I create Proxy to quarter size and I set adaptive resolution to quarter?

thank.

Not sure what you're getting at. Bothe are two completely unrealted things. You would only create a proxy if e.g. the source footage became unavailable or was too big too handle smoothly, but the effects properties needed to function like they were on the original footage, which is all what proxies do - use a low-rez clip, but treat it as if it were the full rez source.

Thank you. Mylenium.

I do understand what proxy is. But, what I want to know is there’re any differences between I set resolution (at my comp) to quarter and render out proxy and set to quarter?. Because, I’ve tried both way and I see no different. If it’s really no different, I won’t waste my time to render proxy out.

Thank You.

Ok - from what you asked and then what Mylenium answered (trust me he knows his stuff) - I think you are asking if rendering the proxy makes a difference if you render out your comp at 1/4 resolution. No, it won't. Although depending on the compression settings and size of the movie/image you use etc of the proxy - the render might look slightly more fuzzy. The only difference you would see between using the actual source or using a proxy is when you render your final in full resolution - which is why AfterEffects has that little checkbox to indicate whether or not you use the proxy.

Another difference would be render times... The actual source could take significantly longer - so using the proxy for roughs or pre-view renders would be a smart idea. It is only a waste of time to render out a proxy if your computer shows no difference in performace between using the proxy and using original footage/comps - which is hardly the case if you have a pre-comp that is very complex or if the footage is very large (Hi-Def).

I hope that that helps you. If you really need a better understanding of what a proxy should be used for go here:

Thank you for all reply

I guess difference is When I set a resolution to half or lower size it's calculate from Full size and devide to half. But Proxy calculate from actual size.So Proxy isn't waste any time to devide resolution. Right?

Thank you

P.s. I'm not good in english.Maybe my questions is not clear and impolite. I'm apologize for all mistake.

Not exactly. Proxies will still pose as full resolution imagery, but due to the reduced size of course there is less delay in loading it and also less RAM consumption. The rest is of course true. AE will not degenerate the footage below the resolution the proxies have physically, as it is aware of the absolute pixel dimensions.

PS: No need to apologize for your language skills. We al lare from different parts of the world and sometimes I'm typing so bad, I doubt some people understand what I write. ;-)
