View Full Version : Slicing a sphere into cubes - is it possible?
Hi there, I'm new to Cinema 4D and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding the following. Is it possible to say create a sphere and then go onto slice it up into a collection of smaller complete cubes. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - Cheers.

on a regular grid? or alopng the shape of the sphere? if you want the shape of the sphere then just use the explosionfx deformer on the sphere and set the parameters to slit the object up on each polygon and give it a depth that's the same as the polygons depth. failing that you're going to have to use booleans. can't think of any particular plugin that would do what you want, cinema isn't a solid modeller, it's a surface modeller. then again i've never come accross this ability innate in any application (on a regular grid that is).
umm its possible you could do this with some kind of morph track or something.
but yeah like per said. you need to give more info if you want a better answer.
Hi, yes I would like to split it on a regular grid. I want the sphere (or hopefully any other shape) to look seamless. Then I would like the sphere to show itself as being made up of a number of smaller cubes. So the cubes would slide against each other. It's important that there is no seams when your looking at the perfect sphere (or other shape). Would using booleans achieve this?
Cheers, Bov
