Title: (First Upload) Mustang on the Salt Flat
Name: Erven Fernandez
Country: United Kingdom
Software: 3ds max, VRay, Vue

Hello, please be gentle as this is my first upload!

The car was created and rendered in 3ds Max, the dust was made in Fumefx. The background was created in Vue. Color correction in Photoshop.

I am generally happy with the car though I suspect it looks too "clean" and there are some funny reflection things happening in places.

The dust is OK in my opinion, but I haven't done any post on it because I am working on an animation of this scene and I'm trying to get the best possible results from Fumefx.

I welcome all constructive input especially in regards to composition as this is an area I'm trying to grow in.

Thanks for looking!

I think it looks really good.

The only thing that bothers me is the sand on the ground. The bumb doesent look that good, neither does the color of the sand. I thin you should work whit that..

And like you say, maby the car is a little clean. but overall, well done!

ErvenFernandez, color of the dust does not match with the color of the ground, and if so, then dust color should be lighter than ground not darker, and I agree with sltrOlsson, ground bump does not look good.

The dust the car is kicking up should in fact be lighter! I'll have more of a play with that, then.

As far as the ground, I was going for this sort of look: http://www.mountaininterval.org/photos/images/b19-roll/12-death-valley-badwater-salt-flats.jpg
However, the closest texture map I came across was from a dry lake bed which I tried to make look a bit more "sand"-y in Photoshop. More work to be done there too.

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming!

Why dont you use dry cracket earth, could do the job.

I did start with that, but found the cracks were too deep, dark and distracting. And as you can see on the pic I attached above, on the salt flats, the cracks actually sit above the surrounding ground. Perhaps I just need to work harder on my adapted bump map!

Thanks,

The overall image is good. But the lighting is off some. It looks like the light should be coming from the top of the car more towards the back. And you have it mostly lit in the front of the car. But good job.

I've been working on some changes based on the above suggestions, I hope to post a result soon!
