Considering the source please take the rumor with a grain of salt

Quote:
"This year’s E3 game developers conference in Los Angeles featured the unexpected appearance of a figure very familiar to fans of dark fantasy: Jack Skellington, the lanky hero of the 1993 stop-motion musical, TIM BURTON’S NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. A life-sized Jack was perched atop a display featuring a video loop announcing an upcoming videogame based on NIGHTMARE; the footage showed a few shots from the THIS IS HALLOWEEN number that opens the film, then it went into new footage of the NIGHTMARE game, featuring approximately thirty seconds of the camera whirling through a remarkably faithful Halloweentown, past the Mayor and other characters from the film, before it ultimately zoomed in to focus on the grinning figure of Jack."

I think because it came from AICN. :)

Cool to hear though..after Jack's appearance in Kingdom Hearts was thinking it would be cool to have a standalone Nightmare game. Hope they do it up right.

'The Nightmare Before Christmas' (PS2) Announced
Posted on Monday, May 19 @ 09:42:10 PDT
Capcom and Buena Vista today announced they are collaborating to bring Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas to the PS2. Based on the 1993 award-winning animated movie of the same name, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is a ghoulish tale with wicked humor and stunning animation. In this adventure action game, players assume the role of "Jack Skellington" the Pumpkin King and help reclaim Halloweentown from the mischievous Oogie Boogie. Capcom's production of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas will incorporate extraordinary worlds filled with magic and wonder mixed with enchanting and musical elements. Capcom plans to release the game in the fall of 2004.

"Capcom is pleased to collaborate with Buena Vista Interactive to bring Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas to video game fans," said Robert Lindsey, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "We believe the story will translate well to video games."

"This is the first time that an entire game will be based on Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. The characters are featured in a popular game-world in our multi-million unit selling title with Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts, and the feedback and desire from gamers to see and play more of the characters and environments is astounding," said Graham Hopper, senior vice president and general manager, Buena Vista Games. "Teaming up with Capcom and their talented development team in Japan further emphasizes our ongoing strategy to bring new, core gaming franchises to the video game community through our publishing label, Buena Vista Interactive."

They didn't show much at the booth at e3. There was more from the movie then there was from the video game. From what I saw, I was not very impressed. The graphics quality of it was pretty sub par. Hopefully the game play makes up for it.

Damn, that's too bad. They should have had Square do it. I'm still blown away by the quality of all the disney character representations in Kingdom Hearts. That and the sheer number and variety of them.

Maybe with a year left on it they'll fix it up along the way.
