i've been trying for six months to find a good resource that talks about integrating final gather into vue... alas, no-one seems to know anything about this-- so i've been doing some experimenting...

even with very minimal final gather settings a simple vue scene drastically slows down... i'm assuming its because the point data comning from vue is extremnely complicated and full of various colors etc... what i need is a work around... some way to simplify the point data from the vue landscape and the way it bounces off of the mental ray scene. if anyone has any suggetions on how to get these images to render more quickly please let me know.

hmmmm the more i think about it... baking seems to be the only solution for doing an animation in vue 6 and using final gather.

What are you trying to do with final gather that you could not achieve another way (i.e. Vue's GI or Radiosity)?

If you are trying to use it with a building or object in a landscape, could you not render out the building as a seperate layer?

i actually made this using 3ds max and vue -- but it was a pain in the butt -- the render times were horrible. it crashed in the 14th hour multiple times so i kept having to lower the quality.

i've kinda given up on using xstream the crashes and the render time make it completely ineffective. i'd rather just do everything in vue
