Early WIP called Left Behind

I'm doing this for a friend whoose parents used to move around a lot when she was a child.

I'm going for a sort of sad image. I'm trying to not only bring out the loss of a favorite childhood toy left behind during a move, but possibly the loss, or end of childhood itself.

Let me know what can be done to improve the image, or make the concept clearer:

Pretty render. What package?
Light seems too blue and spread as hits the grass and bike if I compare it with the background tree. Play a bit with what the light from the photo background was actually doing so that the shadows are drawn appropriately. The main light should be harsh and orange/yellow while there should be green in your bounce light from the grass. Looks darned close but could do with a tweak.

Now as for the composition, my eye will travel and fall into the gutter at the very center which is not very dynamic. Offset the focal point to lend weight to it. Try using "the rule of thirds" as is commonly seen in photography.

Good render great model. Post more if you update it.

It looks very emotional to me, and it is a beutiful image as well. One thing I might recomend to create an even more dramatic effect on the picture is carve the name or initials of your friend in the bike..thats just about the only thing I could think of.

It's great  , but the wheels are too clean. It looks a bit like someone put brand new tires on it before throwing it away. The rubber shouldn't be as black and have alot of tiny cracks, and also the paint should be paler from being in the sun too long. Especially plastic parts lose color quickly in the sun.

Excellent image. it has an immersive quality to it, as if you can step into that world, sort of like a portal to a country location.

Thanks for the comments :)

I adjusted the lighting and composition a little (the update shows in the original link though - I'll make sure to use different file names next time)

I was trying to make the composition such that the tricycle's wheel was seen first, which then lead your eye downward to the rest of the trike which was lying along the bottom third of the image. I'm tempted to try pulling the camera back some to make the trike look more isolated and lonely, but I'm having diffulties making the image balance properly when I do that.

meshwolf,

You're right. The wheels do look too new. I'll try to correct that tonight. I also think the pedals and handles look too bright and need fading a little more, so I'll see what I can do there.

Emberghost,

I'll see what I can do about a name. How about, "Rosebud"? It's the wrong kind of childs vehicle, but it does illustrate the feeling I'm going for.

P.S. I'm using trueSpace to model and render with.

Um I think you misunderstood my comment. When I said putting a name on the bike I meant the name of the girl that you know, not the brand of the trike... like little silver welds into the bike somewhere with her initials or something like that would add more of a dramatic affect to the pic in my opinion.

Another thing I was thinking of but might be too difficult is in the background you could have leaves rolling accross the background. That is sort of what I imagine when I think of a scene that you described in your first post of the thread.

So anyways hope my comments help and I'm waiting to see the final picture :D
