View Full Version : Animation : Tank Tracks
sbv20 05-18-2003, 10:09 PM I'm stumped. How do I make animatable tank tracks in MAX 4? I'm having hella trouble. The problem with path deform is that it deforms the mesh. WHat i tried was animating a helper with the path deform, and then linking the tread to it, but it didn't work! that was my one good idea and it failed. heeeelp please!

a path constraint should fit to your needs
animation menu >>> constraints >>> path
after applying the constraint you can do more adjustments in the motion panel of the objects

the thing to keep in mind with path deform, at least in the case of a tank tread, is to keep the vertices of the path evenly spaced. this will help cut down on the distortion in the curves and in the transitions from straight to curved sections. then u just use one of the spinners to rotate the tread (can't remember which one right now)
