I cannot see how this movie can fail in my eyes. The animation on the Panda is just ridiculous. My favorite in that scene is when he sits down and slowly slides the chopsticks to himself and grabs a dumpling. Brilliant.

This has been looking good from the begining, when it first appeared, and it just seems to be getting more appealing as longer clips appear. I was sold when Jack Black was telling about his awesome moves but its great to see this clip.
My fav piece was the interception of the dumpling during the slow mo, I like the way the tongue moves in to catch the dumpling like a hand, and while the tongue is still really relaxed, like he's thinking about how good its going to be, and almost drooling.

If every sequence is as good as that... it cannot fail. Damn that was good. I have two interests in this film... 3d animation and kung fu. Both I practice regularly so it's doubly fun ;)

Man I can't wait! I got to see a few other sequences of this movie at dreamworks awhile back and I was really floored by the quailty of the animation and the storyboards. Congrats to all the animators who worked on it!

Looks good, but does it have to go into slowmo every minute?

I saw the film last week at an advanced screening. It is a great film. You won't want to miss it.
Here is my review. (http://frederatorblogs.com/channel_frederator/2008/05/15/kung-fu-panda-advanced-screening-and-review/) (no spoilers)

Fantastic use of selective motion blur in that still-frame. Nice stylistic choice there!
Congrats to all who worked on it, Ill be seeing it soon for sure!

I guess this is a bit better than the average american-standard-type animation, but i still can't stand such animation style.
The expressions, gestures and the timing just gives me the creeps.
But it's not because it's badly made, it's just me who like a little more relaxed and toned down type of animation. I wish productions would be more relaxed today...

Its a show about a fat panda who learns kung fu from a kung fu master ... I'm not sure why the "expressions, gestures and the timing" should be any different than how they are. I agree with you if the subject matter of the film were more subdued and not about kung fu, but this? I think they made the right animation and acting choices.

What type of animation are you referring to ...can you please give some examples.
Swahnit's just me who like a little more relaxed and toned down type of animation.
We have'nt seen the whole movie ( ok some of us have FB.) so there may be pieces with a little bit of serenity and meditation, grasshopper [insert wisdom here: about looking before leaping].

Well just a lot of that rapid pose-to-pose feeling i don't like, not that it was present in the Kung Fu Panda-clip though.
I guess movies like 'Chicken Little' or Bluesky's 'Robots' would be a good reference to what i mean...
I find it more acceptable in cell animation for some reason, dunno :D
The only work of art that worked for me containing super pose-to-pose and super exaggerated gestures/expressions is the Ren & Stimpy Show.
Kung Fu Panda looks interesting though.

Good scene! I had my doubts about this film (and I'm still not totally convinced although I will, off course, go see it), but this is a clever scene to show how the training paid off, as it's all about character. To me it starts out a little too predictable, but they went the distance with the idea. The editing and animation could've been sharper, but the structure is nice and I really like the resolution. Good stuff!
