Hello, I am teaching myself 3DS Max 5.1 and am currently working on my first project, modeling my truck to scale. I started with the tires/wheels and am now working on the chassis in a seperate file. I want to work on the major parts of the vehicle seperately and then merge them all together. I took measurements and lots of reference pictures. Before I started I made sure to set my scenes up using the US Standard Decimal Inches units setup and have been sizing the objects according to the real-world dimensions in inches. From what I've read, I understand that as long as the Units Setup is the same in each file, then I shouldn't run into any problems with the size of my objects whem merging scenes.

However, when I merge in my tires into my chassis scene, the tires are way too big, maybe twice as big as they should be. If possible I really don't want to cut corners and just scale them down. I double-checked, and the Units Setup is correct in both files, and the measurements are accurate. What did I do wrong? Any suggestions?

Ok I think I have answered my own question. I guess I posted a little too soon. Sorry!

I was under the mistaken impression that the "Radius" of a sphere, cylinder, or other object refered to the total measurement of the object, not the measurement from the center to the edge. So, my 1980 Ramcharger has 40" tires, and I used a 40" radius in 3DS Max, so I ended up with 80" tires. Wow! That would be some serious mud-boggin.

Glad I found this out before going any further. I'll be posting in the WIP forum when I get some more work done. Thanks anyway!
