CGTalk - Nurbs: black lines?

can someone tell me what are the black lines that appear sometimes after extruding a nurbs surface from a curve?
it seems to be when two points are close together..

can i prevent it from happening?

You might try rebuilding your curves and/or surfaces....:shrug:

thanks, that seems to sometimes fix the problem, but im wondering, how to rebuild the surface without adding more and more curves?
