Skynet's already here. It's a group of satellites that provide comms to British troops.

I'm looking forward to where people take AI using the Second Life open source spin-off. IBM is already working on creating a virtual world-based fashion product lifecycle management (PLM) system, and while Dassault and Siemens are expressing significant interest in virtual world collaboration, it's hard to generate the same level of "play" in proprietary applications.

Dassault already has a really powerful system built on Virtools which is available..
Being built on Virtools it makes it really easy to customize the application to do what you want...

Being built on Virtools it makes it really easy to customize the application to do what you want...I'm talking about the recent announcement they made regarding their PLM efforts which touches most if not all of their software - including, afaik, Virtools - so that they become part of a kind of virtual eco-system. If you've not followed what they're doing in the broader arena, you might find it of interest.
