View Full Version : Lottery machine
rurik 05-19-2008, 12:34 AM Hello
I'm working on a lottery machine project. I've got a spinning circular container with several balls in it. Whenever I try to play it C4d hangs for a long time, but doesn't crash.
Is there any other way to create a similar animation without using dynamics? Something that would provide collision in between balls and with the spinning container (that should appear to be giving motion to the balls).
Thanks!
Alex

SilverBullet will easily handle this

I just downloaded the demo, and am playing with it. However it doesn't seem that easy. If I place a small sphere inside a bigger one, make the bigger one spin (small sphere is set to dynamic, big sphere to static), the small sphere doesn't collide properly, it just flies out of the sphere. No matter how much I subdivide the larger sphere, the smaller one won't stay in it...
Any ideas?
Thanks

Try making the static sphere editable and reversing it's polygon normals so the smaller spheres will collide with it's inside.

Thank you very much! That did it!
I didn't think of that since the SB manual says it is better to keep objects parametric...
Thanks again

You're welcome, glad that helped, Silverbullet is a fantastic plugin, one of my favourites, usually you can leave everything parametric (it even works with sweep nurbs objects) but for bouncing something off the inside of an object I guess the normals have to be reversed for it to work.
BTW I made a short tutorial on using Silverbullet with a rigged character over on the C4DCafe, you an find it here (http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=405) if interested.

Thanks, I looked that the tutorial and found it great.
I guess my issues are really related to objectds being inside of other objects. The lottery thing is close to working (got to figure out how to make the balls bounce up in the container), but now I'm not figuring out how to get a ball to stay inside of a "tunnel" or tube. I reversed the normals, placed the ball on the top of the tube, and it should drop and bounce inside the tube all the way down, but instead of bouncing it just flies through the geometry again...
What else aside from normal direction could cause that?
Thanks!!

Difficult to say without seeing the scene file, but maybe try playing with the values of the Sub steps and/or World unit size on the advanced tab of the main Silverbullet object.
