ok i got this problem in max 5 when i put a skylight in the scene it gives away the opacity map of my decal, when the skylight is off it looks good and u cant tell. the image i am using is a jpeg in the diffuse slot, and an alpha of that in the opacity slot.

The skylight probably doesn't handle opacitymaps correctly, it seems it only sees the geometry when it is creating the shadows. A solution would be to turn off 'cast shadows' on the decal object (object properties->cast shadows).

Another solution would be to make a new texture with the decal on a yellow background so you wouldn't need to use the alpha at all.

well that dident solve the problem, if i turned the alpha yellow, all u see is yellow instead of black.
