ZBrush 3.x is in final testing and optimisation, according to ZBrush Central. But whether it'll be made available for PPC Macs hasn't yet been decided - which makes me think that it's not. I live in hope. I bought ZB2 for ZB3, but I'm on a Quad G5...

I is awaiting the Mac 3.1 release, and there appears to be no signs of when it will be released. I am running the PC version on boot camp with XP, but it has some instability issues and limits.

If anyone has any idea when we expect to see this gopher arise from its hole, a post would much be appreciated.

Well it's not gong to be on this forum - you need to go to ZBrush Central. But I wouldn't hold your breath...

zBrush 3 for Mac is starting to look like vaporware:

when the PC version came out, more then a year ago, Pixologic said that the mac version would follow 6-8 months later (i.e. december-january). Then we were told "by the end of february 2008", but at that time, Pixologic stated that zBrush 3 for Mac had just entered beta, and since then, no single piece of news, not one screenshot of the beta...

The february date was announced in january: if you followed closely, it means that Pixologic announced a release date for the next month, despite the fact that they knew the product wasn't even in beta stage!

I'm getting a bit worried about all this...

Pixologic are notorious for missing deadlines, but I agree this is now getting ridiculous. The latest rumour is that they're working on a v3.x (3.2? 3.5?) release which is simultaneous on both Mac and PC - but that's all it is: a rumour. Mainly because Pixologic never communicate any details at all, which is simply bad business practice in this day and age.

They've got a lot of unhappy Mac users on their books at the moment, and all it would take to pacify them is one nicely worded statement.

I think that the many people who express their concern over at zBrushCentral should do it here.

So I wake from my hybernation expecting ZBrush to be out for the Mac this summer and...nothing.
Way to go Pixo-whatever..
The way I see it...they are waiting to be sold out by Autodesk. Why waste time and money on Mac users. Not a priority. Its ok. I've gone this long without it...what's another year? lol
Oh well.

the email I sent Pixo yesterday,

To Whom it may concern,
Hi, as a mac user I have been waiting over a year for ZBrush 3 for mac.
Could you please at least give me some news on the progress, Good or Bad? And could you please respond to this email. I would really
appreciate it. Please give me some news so I can tell my mac friends over on the ZBrush Central forum and make their day. I don't
care how small the news is just something to ease the pain. Thank You
Lorne M

and the reply I received today

Hello Lorne,

First and foremost, many thanks for your interest in ZBrush, and for your patience.
As stated by Aurick on ZBrushCentral, we are currently in the last leg of development for the ZBrush Mac.

Things are going very well and we're very happy of the results. As soon as we can share the news you know it will
be posted in ZBrushCentral ASAP :)!!!

We are all at Pixologic -as eager- as all of you to deliver ZBrush for Mac to you, including novelties and surprises.

Thanks again for your interest and your patience.

Kindest regards,
-jaime

Well, friends there you have it. An official response. I am elated they actually got back to me. Finally some Good News let's hang in there! :D

My only worry now is if it's Intel-only. That really would be a kick in the Quad G5s.

This has gotten ridiculous, no wonder they shut their mac topic down! It was getting out of control in February, can you imagine what it would be like now?
I have literally given up hope of seeing ZB any time soon. My guess is SIGGRAPH at the earliest...

IF there was another program I could use that is of equal standard I would, but until Autodesk get it together and release a Mac Mudbox (yeah right) then I'm stuck with waiting.

I wonder what the novelties and surprises are? Anyone care to guess? Maybe a nicely coloured bag chock full of treats and a party hat?

My inklings tell me that we should expect a release sometimes in July.

With the lack of PR and the insider posting "unofficial news", this has turned into a giant nightmare that they can't possible recover from. I bought ZB2 and got some use out of it. With the promise of a 2.5 update free promotion, I was in. As that snowballed out of control I learned how they operate. So I thought. Now I know, this company is a disaster. Free updates are one thing, selling now with a promise of the next update is free is something else. I was able to use ZB2, no problem and loved it. Now I have upgraded machines/OS and it is obsolete. I upgrade my personal machine like a snail (but still faster than their development) I've ran a dual 1g machine into the ground LOL!, and now I can't run any pixoware on my MAc Pro without compromises.

A company can do this once, but not delivering on promised goods in a timely or even slower than expected time frame will do them in. Their communication sucks, I'm fed up with waiting, and not hearing anything. Many a Mac threads have been closed over @ vapo-logic. As paid customers, we deserve to ALL BE INCLUDED IN THE BETA PERIOD. Screw free goodies and "novelties" We want what should have been 2.5, not whatever this damn relaease may or may not be ... 3.5, 4.0?

Thanks for letting me rant guys, I could go on, but need to take a deep breath. The kicker is, I'm sure if they do release a MAc version again, we'll be really happy with it. But on the other hand, I have been on the look out for a sticky on their site about refunds available ... as a way out of this mess.

Here's to waiting in the dark ...

and your alternative is what?

mudbox?>>>>windows only
blender>> very basic tools for sculpting but it IS on MAC and FREE
Modo>>it's on mac!..best option i think currently
hexagon>> on mac but quite slow and rather buggy last time i used it...hard to get displacements out of it.
silo> on mac but no export of displacement maps

wait til siggraph 2008 for the zbrush 3.x for mac announcement [and windows]

Couldn't agrre more. Modo is the closest so far, however as far as an overall, sculpt only app, 3D Coat is on it's way. Still not zbrush though.

Just 40 days till SIGGRAPH. You've waited this long - you'd be mad not wait another six weeks! People, it's coming. The Mac version is on its way and it's pretty obvious it's more than just a port of 3.1. It's gonna be good!

So does that mean we who bought the PC version will get the Mac version for free?

It's been so long, I forget what our deal was as Mac users when we opted in over a year ago.

Hope Siggraph surprises us. :)

Agreed.

I am a windows user JUST and ONLY because Autodesk don't have a 3dsmax version for Osx (yet). ;) I hope everyday to be free from windows. lol. :)

I don't think thats the case. I bet we're going to see an update at siggraph so they will wait and release teh OSX ten version with 3.2 or whatever it will be.

I love Modo by the way and use it every day. However the sculpting is not up to par. Zbrush has no equal when it comes to sculpting and doing it well.

I have been using zbrush 3.1 in paralells. It slows down considerably considering your running OSX and windows together but it works. I have been waiting for Zbrush 3 for a mac forever and I finally just gave up on it. I just got tired of holding off on learning this program. I really wish some more reliable company would buy them out. After this long wait I have to say I am skeptical if they will ever release zbrush 4 for mac. 3 could be the end of the line as it appears they dont have the resources to carry both operating systems. I know the next version is a ways off but to remain competitive and up to date you have to be able to work in the latest version of your software to take advantage of industry advancements. Following a year behind others just because of your operating system just isnt a wise career choice.

It'd be nice to have a mac version. But I don't care that much. If making a version for mac is a good thing for pixologic to do. I hope they do it. But if it's going to slow down future releases, I'd rather they not bother.

Vovin
08-12-2008, 07:13 PM
here will have to eventually be a mac version as they pre sold it to people. So they would hae to refund all of those who they sold it to if they dont release it. The question right now is when and if this will be the last version that will support MAC. There's a up to the minute heck even a up to the second thread over at zbrushcentral. Come on over and have a nervous break down with the rest of us as we speculate, guess, cry, complain and carry on.

maybe tomorrw they'll get round to posting up that sneel peek video on 3.5...so we can see if zbruish 3.5 will be out for osx finally.

Doesn't look good guys, Aurick has posted that essentially his hands are tied and he can't talk about what he doesn't know. THis is really, really bad.

Somone at the siggraph event said a pixo rep said version 3.5 will be released in december and it will be a PC/mac release. Mac users will get a free copy. This is not official but it is the only info we have at the moment. There is supposed to be a official announcement at the end of this week.

4 more months is not 'good news' but it is news. But to be honest promises have been made before so I would take it with a grain of salt.

08-13-2008, 12:42 PM
Once again, it is Unofficial news. Very strange for such a tight lipped company that doesn't let anything out, yet the only mac news they ever offer is unofficial news. That company sucks. I hope that Apple buys them and fixes the issue for everyone.

Wow so the only info we could get after two days of siggraph is:

"Some guy heard from another guy that a pixologic rep said under the table that mac version will come out 5 months later"

YIPPEE!

I hate the rolleyes smiley but it would be apt in this case.

HI Zbrushers,
Is being a long time why will you think these time is for real? I am used to Zbrush2 and i cant see any difference at my level that this upgrade could be somehow beneficial. I mustly ( i thoght that word existed :))use it with other applications for displacement mapping. Has anything change since then sorry is being a busy month if this question seems like
(where have you been living dude?). :)

Thanks
