Hi, This is my new illustrarion project, is about a chinesse battle in three kingdom dynasty background. The main character in this battle was ambushed by his enemy, and he is fighting hard to survive. I like to paint some conflict and battle type of scene, which i can capture the action and movement in the battle.

The colouring is still in the progress, i havnt paint on the other warrior around him.

here is the black and white sketch concept

I 've change the action and pose on the main guy.

Please fell free to give me some comments. Thanks for viewing.

It looks amazing, I love everything about it and it isn't finished yet. The only critique I can give judging from the previous works that appear on your portfolio is that due to the style you use, sometimes the characters get lost in the images. I think you should be careful with doing that just to some extent so it looks just right. Not too much, not too little.

Anyway, it's defitively much better than what I'd do. :)

hi arielmedel, thanks for ur advice, i will see what i can i do on this piece, will try to focus more on the main character.

Tymotzues, glad that u like it. :)

exStatic1, thanks for ur suggestion, i think the size of the sword should be fine, unless change to a more heavier weapon.

Greenham, the link is working now.

The link still does not appear to be working for me. I see only this placeholder image when I follow the link:

I still cant see the sketch. I really like your underpainting..I can tell this is going to come out great. Looks like something out of Dynasty Warriors. Could you talk a little about the process you are using on this piece?

haha, obviously the image is displaying differently on your screen than it is to mine. This is what I'm seeing:

:) Thanks. I did not mean for this to detract from your WIP, I only meant to point out to you that you had a dead link in your original post.

Fantastic work. I can't fault it. Any small errors are lost within the deep splendor of this work. This is the sort of artistic magnificence I aspire to. I only hope one day I reach the same quality as you've illustrated here.

 This isnīt finished but i give you 5* right now because when i saw the picture i actualy said woooow, and that donīt happens to me a lot, not even in this forum (and there is a lot of greats works around here).

It would be nice if you dont lose the gracefully and freshness of the strokes, they are wich, in part, are making this picture so impressive.

Well, sorry for my poor english, i hope you understand my point.

Greenham, thanks for pointing out the dead link in my post, i didn't realiase it untill i try on other computer, and thanks for your compliment too.

Ataulfo, JMART, thanks for the kind words, guys, i will keep it up, it still got long way for me to go.

I try to share some problems i met in this process. Firstly, I spent alot of time on changing the compositions and the pose of the main character to make it more dynamic.
From this early stage
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l180/derrick_song/zilong%20painting/colour_prog3.jpg

to this
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l180/derrick_song/zilong%20painting/colour_prog4.jpg

and finally confirm on this compositions which i prefer the compositions flow
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l180/derrick_song/zilong%20painting/colour_prog5.jpg

I started it with grey mode so that it will be easier for me to decide lighting direction later and after which, i used some warm colour key mix with cool green on the left to bring out the contrast. i still keep the outline in this stage, and normally i will change it to multiply blending in photoshop layer. And from there, i start to touch up with middle tone colour and finally to hightlight.

This is all i can share at this stage since i m still working on the colouring now.

It's a wonderfull piece, I've also given you ***** :) Maybe I preffered the previous expression of the warior, but this composition really works as you said..

I've been painting digitally since february and I has always been wondering, how this like "light look" of the picture should be created.. Even though I sometimes use layers, I haven't known it's because of "multiply".. you inspired me a lot and I made a quick sketch last night, it's nothing special, but though I dedicate it to you ;) http://ajinak.deviantart.com/art/Waiting-for-the-Autumn-86339394

Can't wait to see your picture finished! :)

pongstah, thanks you very much.

ajinak, thanks for your dedicate picture, i appreciate it and wish you can keep it up with the painting. Normally i will use multiply for the darker shading and outline. There also got alot of useful bleending mode in the layer, try play with it, you can get some unexpected result sometimes.

Narida, thanks for your vote.

yongs, nice to meet you at here too and thanks for your support, wish can see more Singaporean active in this forum.

And here is my recent update,
I has changed the size of his sword, i think what mentiond by exStatic1 is right, the size should be bigger. And i flicked the painting horizontal which i think all the warriors should come from left to right, and it is follow the direction when we reading, which is always begin from the left.
