Hi,

I've been using MAX for a good while now, but I have never really gone into Mental Ray and other rendering techniques. I haven't been able to find any really comprehensive description on MR, FG, GI, Caustics etc. I think it would really help me if i could get some good information on subjects like:

How does it work (in-depth - more than in the max tutorials)
What are all the features for eg. FG (the max tutorials don't go through very many of them)
Which functions are good for which object/scene-types/materials etc.
How does it work when saving light-information (FG, GI, etc) to a file? (can I for example use FG on a 200x200 px rendering, save the information, and then use it on a 1500x1500 px render?)

If some knows of a really good tutorial/website/book where I can get all this information, I would be really greatful!! I think this information is relevant for all hobby artist who would like to use MR and all its great abilities.

Thx!

Hello. I think this book is probably what you need.
"Mental Ray for Maya, 3ds Max, and XSI: A 3D Artist's Guide to Rendering"
by Boaz Livny.
I've read some parts of it and want to say - it's very solid and comprehensive. Just what I looked for!

Here is the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mental-Ray-Maya-3ds-Max/dp/0470008547/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223446373&sr=8-1
