this is a scene i made a while ago..

the vertebraes represent the individual and how we are all interconnect and must act together to keep the spine, which represents the society, alive. hence the spines fragile glass appearance to show what a delicate balance act it is.

ok. im totally kidding with the description. this was just a quick test of some new shaders for XSI with a model of a spine that i had lying around.
setup time for the materials and lighting about 5 minutes. rendering took maybe 1 minute.

cranked it up quite badly to show it off nicely

and the last one. testing some faked SSS

setup and render time again something like 2 minutes or so.

Hey looking cool!

In the last one I think thit looks slightly too transparent though.. i mean the way you can see the bottom of each segment through the top kind of thing..

But t'is all cool!

yah. like i said faked SSS, tis not perfect.

the bottom parts were actually totally solid which made it look kind of crappy, so i plugged an incidence node into the transparency to kind of soften up the edges a bit, to simulate some scattering there as well
