Title: The Alien Seller
Name: Ahmet Arif Eken
Country: Turkey
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush
Hi everybody!.
This is my last work for CG Challenge - Uplift Universe. I really enjoyed with my work and this challenge has been big experience for me. If you want to see the stages of my work, you can visit my challenge entry page.
I hope you like it.
My concept:
My design concept is about the future world. People will design machines to generate oxygen and gravity. They will cover the earth with magnets of steel. They will contact alien and mix their DNA with earthly species to breed hybrid ones. I illustrated a man selling these new creatures to children. The image of a balloon sellers gave me inspiration for my design. Children have to dress in magnetic clothes because of the lack of bone growth due to low gravity. A special piece implanted to the creatures prevents them doing harm. My basic idea is that mankind could be the most harmful and malicious species ever.

Glad to see your piece in the showcase mate. There are really tasteful details on your meticulous work. This is your first struggle for such a huge 3D work in a single image and you handled it quite well. I'm sure you'll obviate your deficients in a short period.
congrats man..

extremely cool image. It's a future world, yes, but still inhabited by greedy dumb humans. I enjoy the idea of aliens attached to strings like ballons very much. Must admit, would by one for myself probably...and then go protesting...
however, I do not so much like the expression on the resellers face. He should be looking at the child with an overfriendly smile.
keep it up

My basic idea is that mankind could be the most harmful and malicious species ever. As compared to what? And when you say "ever", what time frame are you referring to?
All time that's already past, or all time including what hasn't yet passed?
So, it's your belief that if we could know of and consider all species ever in existence during the past-present and future, that we as apes with the ability to speak and reason would be the most harmful and malicious species ever to exist in the entire universe?
I actually think that humans are already a hybrid of alien species.
The "malicious" aspects you talk about are actually the primal aspects of our earthly existence.
Not really malicious, as that would mean we cause harm for fun.
The harm we do is out of stupidity and ignorance.
And if we ARE hybrids already, wouldn't that make those who created us the most harmful and malicious?
Think about how large the universe is, it sounds a little ridiculous to assume that we petty humans would be the most harmful and malicious species in such a large place.
Think about how harmful bacteria and viral organisms are and could be.
But they don't know that they're harmful or malicious, because harm and malice are arbitrary earthly concepts that rely on the assumption that peace and love(also arbitrary earthly concepts) are the natural states of being.
When science clearly shows that chaos and turbulence are far more natural states for everything.

I'd like to explain my own sight about the subject;
Firstly, time is nothing. If you collect all the times togather, it's only a moment. There is no comparision about time. that's clear if you think about relativity. So I think he is not talking about any time piece while saying 'ever'. There is a misunderstading about time concept i guess.
Talking about aliens is symbolic here. We can not talk about the other lifes or the other human beings at the universe.. Because we are not sure if they are exist. We can believe them but being sure about their existence is being beguiling ourselves. Belief is only a belief. Nothing more.
Even if we accept their existence, the main idea will not change. Those kind of human behaviours aren't earthly at all. They're about existences with the conscious. Being evil can only belong to a conscious. We must not miss the point about being harmful is NOT being evil. An animal kills other with its instinct and with no conscious as a basic example. This can be harmful for the hunted one but good for the nature or the earthly balance. At least the reason comes from there. But human may kill for himself and for no reason. 'Fun' a reason created by an undeveloped conscious here which can only belong to a human Or something like human with conscious. Doesn't matter where it is.
So the malice notion begins to exist where the conscious appear.
The conscious and those kind of human behaviours are steady. Changeable but steady.
You can agree with him if you try to understand him clearly. Playing around the definitions won't be useful for us.
That's exactly my point.
Since malice is a behavior born of consciousness, and since we don't know for sure that alien species with the gift of consciousness exist for sure, then malice would be an arbitrary earthly concept from our perspective.
To put it more clearly, IMO, there's evidence that the natural state of the universe is chaotic and violent.
It boils down to change.
A static entity is from our perspective, a dead entity or not an entity at all.
With that in mind, it stands to reason that everywhere else in the universe that contains life, conscious life or not, is still subject to constant change.
It's this change that propels life forward.
Change is by definition the very substance of our being.
Evolution.
Just a fancy word for change.
Without it, we wouldn't be here.
We would cease to adapt, and then cease to exist.
I understand what the artist here is saying.
I just think that the concept of malice would exist in any species with the ability to look forward.
I agree that time is nothing.
Another arbitrary concept unique to conscious beings such as ourselves.
However, I suspect that if we can survive these times of technological adolescence, we'll meet others.
And the artist who did this piece must feel the same way.
