Ever since I remember the render Diagnostics in Maya gives this message:

Speed/Memory Implications
-------------------------
- it can be useful to run your scene through "maya -optimizeRender"
before rendering. This can help optimize the scene for rendering.

How in the heck do you "run your scene through "maya -optimizeRender"" I can't run that as a script and nothing else works......and how important is this really? MR is difficult enough so I don't even know if I should worry about this "maya -optimizeRender" business.

Thanks,
Andrei

What it means is to go:

File > Optimize Scene Size

Doing that deletes all uneeded nodes from your scene, like textures, layers, sets and any other nodes not being used.

well, is File > Optimize Scene Size really aquivalent to the shell command maya -optimizeRender?!

as far as i know, there are several options available when doing the optimize from the windows command-prompt (e.g. freeze tesselation)!

do i have those via the file-menue either? it doesn't seem so...
