View Full Version : Compositing with max?
Hi guys, I want to know how to render in layers or something like that in max, I don't if this is possible, but if there is a way, could be very helpfull to my company....I want to render, let's say, trees, and then houses, and then sky, and so on....thanks you all!

I havnt used max in a while, but up by the render tabs there should be a button that looks like 3 layers or pieces of paper stacked. Press this and It should bring up a render layer editor.

The layers in max is fine for keeping an overview of your scene and various elements - but for rendering in passes it misses a few key points. If you want to render out eg. houses and trees in seperate passes, you need atleast one of those layers to respect the other in terms of transparency - so the right stuff is on top. Using the builtin layers in max you would need to apply matte/shadow materials to the "cutting layer" when rendering out the layer you want.
