View Full Version : Contour shading in Mental Ray issue...

Greetings all,

I need to render a sequence for work using the mental ray contour shader. I've plugged the contour_shader_simple into the proper tab under a white surface shader shading group. This achieves my desired look of black outlines on and around seemingly flat white objects. This setup has worked find for me in previous shots but now I seem to be getting a lot of artifacting (random sporatic spottiness throughout) on my objects where it is attempting to sample edges that should not be sampled (soft enough edges that do not conflict with the normal contrast threshold under my render globals and hard, flat faces). I have tried a wide array of different things to fix this issue but have not been able to find anything that works (adjusted overall samples, overridden samples on specific geometery, rebuilt the shader from scratch, rebuilt geometery, exported entire scene, adjusted overall scene size, etc). It doesnt seem to matter if the object is NURBS or Polys. If you have any ideas on this please help because I'm going bald from pulling all my hair out.
