Title: Athaclena and the Gorila
Name: Michele Bedendo
Country: Italy
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop, Silo, XSI

"Leading the Neo-Chimps, the Tymbrimi girl Athaclena enters the illegal laboratory "Howlettes Center" were Neo-Chimps are trying to uplift some Gorila individuals. She stands in front of one of them, sadly looking at him: such a powerful and woderful primate reduced to an experiment, to a slave. She's wondering if is this the way the Uplift philosophy has come to..."
To realize this image, due to really little time Ihad, I decided to model and light the scene in 3D and then painting color, lighting and textures in Photoshop. I discovered actually that is it possible have much more control over the result than just going for a "one shot render".

very cool image. I think you captured the expression on her face very well. I also like the character design.

Are you planning to do some animation with the girl? She would deserve a good rig.

My crits:
First: You didn't spend any time at the background. The pure black isn't enough. I would love to see a door half openend, or a big room with lots and lots of Gorillas in water, or anything else that would suggest more of a story. Trouble behind her, or trouble ahead?

Second: The lighting is very technical. It seems as if you applied the 3point light setup and called it finished (at least with the girl, the gorilla looks quite good)

But I guess you would have fixed those things anyway, if you had had more time. May i ask how long it took you from zero to hero?

Hello,

thanks for comment&critics, I really appreciate :)
I agree with all yours critics, this image is not really complete, not at all. I wanted to finish it in order to tell the story from my point of view. It seems by reading your comments that I achieved it :).

About how much time I really spent on it: 10 days. Has you can see very little compared to the time we had. The problem was that I was busy on a short I had to complete, so I couldn't work as much as I would.

The scene needs a background, I know. In the next future I'll try to complete the scene as it should be. About the lighting, this time I spent more time on photoshop to create it than on the 3D app: well, it seems that I need to improve my photoshop lighting skills :D

An animation for her? Well, I really didn't think about that at all. It could be but at the moment I really am a little "saturated" with animation cause the short I completed :p

Anyway, really thanks for these observations! I really need them :D. See you!
