View Full Version : a new landscape tool
Hello folk
I did a new object to my MoXPig library
itīs a landscape tool, suitable for landscape creating from other (disconnected) shapes. Idea is same as Add the sea landscape object...
I did a little preview - videotutorial
Camtasia codec needed!

Cheers Pavel
PS: I know my EN is simple terrrrrrribble, please be kind to me :-)

Sounds interesting!
I myself used cloth to merge some landscapes together with a smooth transition. That worked great I must say. I guess your tool is a bit more versatile and less polygon intensive. Keep us updated with progress on this tool

Sure, but my tool does not depend on MOCCA, it is a pure XPresso only. And it is much faster than MOCCA.
I have used your system for "spline" dynamic tool based on Clothilde engine. I used it on my Budha character http://www.3dsoftware.cz/upload/portfolios/35618/hires/@@@161.jpg
THX for your support, Pavel

Thank you! Is this already in the download?

Not yet, I want to test your opinion first, than I will prepare a little article and tutorial (czech) and update library itself....

Hello, I couldnīt have seen the whole video yet, but it seems to be the tool I was missing in C4D. Another example of the power of Xpresso... But how is it with splines? Would it be possible just to make landscape out of the level lines?

Spline works as well :-)

Until now all my terrains used to have very messed up meshes - now the new time begins ... :)

Pavel,
This looks really great, and it seems like it could have broader use as a general re-topologizing tool; have you included other kinds of projection besides planar?
Nick

Uff, it would be much harder task, but maybe is this possible, too.. I must try it first...
Idea: if I know a normal vector of each point I can use this vector as a direction of placing of raycollision points, hmmm, maybe I dont have a skill for that. Who knows....

I can't seem to see the video.
Firfox on a Intel Mac.
I tried downloading it and it starts, but never downloads all the way.
Anyone else having a problem?

This will be very cool for all sorts of re-topo jobs. Nice!
And.... I can't find it.... how did you open that floating menue in that video?

Pavel this is amazing! A very usefull topology tool as said above, that greatly surpasses the landscape creation process. Can't wait for the release.
I have a couple of suggestions, that could be used for a commercial release:
It'd be great to have an influence/strength value, to blend between original and projected state, so it could be animation friendly as well.
A second one would be to have other projection types as stated above, that would allow objects with volume, such as a sphere or a cube, to be partly or completely projected to a surface.
Again, great tool!

i guess this is a real pleasure if released
just great work
waiting for a Release

Rainer
It's called the "general popup" and it's assigned to mx1 mouse button by default (forward button if your mouse has one).
Pavel- Awesome tool!!! Can't wait for its release. You are a GENIUS!!!

Floating menu? You mean the HUD (press V) or did you mean something else?
@ Pavel: I think your xpresso tool is much better than the Cloth option I tried. Too many polygons and also slow when working on detailed landscapes. So I'm really looking forward to your tool.

Hello all
1) thx you for your support and nice words
2) 51M0N: A scaling will be possible I mean. I leave it for next release, becouse I don't have a time for this project, now. Maxon pushes me with CZ manual :-(.
3) Release will be available next week :-)
Cheers Pavel
PS: We got a message from Motion Gimmick about my tool (I have a NFR version of their Add the sea plugin, I wrote four articles on it):
1) I did not use any part of this plugin, it is a pure Xpresso
2) I respect all Atze authors, their work and their laws
3) I will be allways on their side
4) Atze is deeper, wider and better :-) in many aspects...
5) Idea is same, but this is my own idea! I used it before three years in a simple "curve projection" trick (I did not nice that), you can check it in my old article here:
http://www.3dsoftware.cz/3dportal/clanek.aspx?id=154
6) Check a date please, it is from 1.2.2005!
7) and last - I don't want to damage their bussines
Sorry if somebody feels it different, sorry again

Motion gimmick doesn't have a leg to stand on really maxon themselves has a shrink wrap deformer that does the same thing too, and its a deformer so much more flexible.

Hi Pavel
No doubt about this. Good luck for your project.

Thanks for the Mx1 button and the V Key!
Cheers
Rainer
PS:Huh.... did not know that Atze can do that....
Hello all
THX to 51mon suggestion I improved my tool :-)
There is a new multiplication option - you can check it in new short video
http://download.digitalmedia.cz/temp/landscape1/landscape.html
http://download.digitalmedia.cz/temp/landscape1/landscape1.zip
Rainer:
sorry I donīt understand you
About Atze - it is pretty nice and strong plugin. Every part of this is based (in modeling section) on special deformers system and it works very fast and nice. It is a bit harder to understanding (shaders for example) but really works nice...
more you can find here: http://add-the-sea.de/eng/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

i've broken my fingers several times trying to create nice landscapes - with your tool it would be a matter of 10 minutes :)

Hey this is GREAT Pavel!--but like Kai mentions--we now have the shrinkwap deformer which is similar to what you show. Are you saying here that yours works more efficiently than the one in mocca?
"Sure, but my tool does not depend on MOCCA, it is a pure XPresso only. And it is much faster than MOCCA."
Just want to understand the differences between the 2.
I guess at the very least--this functionality is now availeble t those who dont have MOCCA.
Thanks
(EDIT--was gonna say that with Shrinkwrap deformer you cant edit the deformed mesh in its deformed state like Pavel shows--but I think that ability was added to deformers in 10.5--I have 10.1 here at work--will have to try it later once Im home)

main differences would be that pavels is expression based and mocca's is deformer based, which means each has some benefits. You could use cappuccino to capture animated changes on Pavels, you can't directly with shrinkwrap (thought mocca also has point cache to solve that) I think shrink wraps a little more flexible in terms the different methods of projection, and beign a deformer can use things like vertex maps and falloffs etc.
For those without mocca though its a very nice solution.
