What is wrong with Daz? They really do not know how to showcase their software.

I miss the old Carrarra page that showed you examples and videos of what it can do.

For example check out the amount of information on their Hair

With this new hair/fur modeling and simulation feature, you can paint, cut, and brush realistic hair on any object you choose. Pick your hair grow regions and determine the density, length, and segment count of your hairs. Using guide hairs for all your editing, you get near real-time feedback to speed up the styling process. Whether you're animating or illustrating, your ability to create greater realism with hair, fur, grass, and more, not only becomes possible in Carrara 6, it's easy too.

Wow that was insightful! They need to take their queue from all the other software vendors and really show what it can do.

This is how you show off your Hair possibilities

They need to have someone rework that and put some effort into it. Good deal though. But why would I need Mimic Lite and Pro?

In bulk sales. They give a price point for the hobbyists to enter and cater to them.
Sometimes that is why I have a little laugh at folks on turbosquid selling human models that almost look like Poser models and sell them for 100-250 dollars a peice.

Considering the competition where you can buy a whole program with 100s of models for 249 dollars.

They have 10's, if not 100's of thousands of people who are Platinum members that pay $7.95 every month to get the best deals on everything they sell. Then they sell and give away thousands of pieces of content, figures, textures, scenes, clothes, hair, plants etc. The cheap and/or free software and figures get people started in 3D for almost nothing. This company makes lots of money off of hobbyists who like to buy pre-made content and then put it together in scenes and render them. If you want to create models and sell them there, you can make money also.

I know they save money by selling buggy software that should of been developed and tested more.

The stuff they sell is great for hobbyists, pre-viz, as rough and ready models for 2D imaging or any time you need to put some graphics together rapidly and cheaply. You will have seen their stuff somewhere in commercial use in Print or TV by now and probably didn't even recognize it.

They make their money selling pre-made content in volume to a dedicated audience. They have been moving into software too: Bryce, then DazStudio, and Carrara and Hexagon looking for stuff that works well with their content. I haven't found their software to be particularly buggy and I work with it most days of the week. This is a damn good deal for the price. But besides price, the learning curve on the software is very gentle, which is probably part of the reason why they have such a big audience: you don't need a degree or to spend a lot of time to get good images out of their software and content.
