I feel sorry for the artists at the Tippett Studio involved with this train wreck.

I love how they have to actually show the phonetics and how to pronounce the title underneath it. I guess they aren't expecting much from the target audience.

Why?
You feel sorry that they have jobs? You feel sorry that they get to work in film?
I'm sure they feel a different emotion when they read your post about how you feel that they must feel terrible attaching so much of their time into a project that isn't up to your standard. Honestly, having worked on some films along a similar vein, I know how they feel. Many of them probably didn't want to work on it. But, like myself, I'm sure many of them also wanted to just work 'period', more than they didn't want to work on this show.
I don't feel sorry for them. I'm glad they were employed and got to put another film on their resume and beef up their demo reels.
Way to go tippett (and any others who may have worked on it).

No, I feel sorry that their talents are being applied to a crapfest of a film. The effects work will likely be great, but the film itself won't likely deserve such greatness.
Isn't this movie being directed by the same guy who directed Home Alone 3 and Scooby Doo? If it's true, then yes, this movie is already crap, despite effects that will likely be great.

HAHAHA,
That is one of the most insane things I've seen in a while! It will make ridiculous amounts of money.

Most movies heavy on vfx "nowadays" are not good, and the vfx are often incredible ... case in point - The Golden Compass, it didn't do well at the BO and its ratings were poor but the vfx were stunning. In this industry one can't often hope that the amazing effects they work so hard to put in a movie will be justified by the story of the movie itself.
Crapfest or not, my point still stands. When you boil it all down, there is ultimately no reason to feel sorry for these talented artists and tds. They do their best with what their studio is able to get awarded, and chances are good that they will personally improve their craft because of the experience and use said experience to go to newer and better opportunities down the road.
Unlike us in the movie attending public (who have the luxury of choosing whether or not to see a movie) these hard working artists don't have the luxury of choosing what they will work on. I've worked on what some would consider stinkers. I worked on Alvin and the Chipmunks and on Garfield 2. It was the work from those films that helped me get my job today, and I couldn't be happier.

Matt, I totally agree with what you said.
One thing though, Golden Compass made 375 million world wide. It didn't do well in the US, I'll give you that :)
Cheers,
Marlon

I think the phonetic subtitle was meant to be funny, given the emphasis on the WOW syllable and all, and Pixar had to do the same for Ratatouille and I don't remember anybody bitching about it :)
Chances are every single retard in the target audience will know how it's pronounced because they always wanted one of the most useless and ugliest dogs to ever be considered a breed.
The rendering and animation had an odd cartoony/illustration feel about them. No idea if that's because the shots aren't finalized, because some art director/director wanted it that way, or simply because there was not enough budget to do anything more photoreal. It looks like the movie will be horrendous, but the vfx might be alright.
I really could have used not hearing that horrible song again though.
Not every movie made is for adults and I think that might actually be enjoyable for a kid, so I wouldn't run around saying how crappy movies you don't like are.
I'd rather work on that, than some of the real crap i have to work on a daily basis.

not even half way through the trailer and i shut it down.
I think It would be so fun to work on this movie, even if the target audience are not adults or spoilt kids. Actually me and my buddy were laughing at this trailer, its so ridiculous, but the CG is great.

It didin't look all that terrible at all, all those comments made it sound like paris hilton movie. Kids will love it, and if you think you are so f*****g adult, you can not watch it.

They are in general a very neurotic race, loved by a specific range of people.

but see that's what's so great about working in this industry. even if the movie itself is horrible, those shots will still look great on a demo reel.

What is going on in hollywood?! What the hell is this? Why not use the exact same amount of money to make an atleast decent movie?

Oh. My. God. We might have reached the ultimate whoring point of digital graphics. My eyes izzz burning!
A movie that isn't made for adults doesn't appeal to those same adults? Shocking.
Would anyone be objecting if they'd made the same movie via handdrawn animation instead? Pitying those poor animators who have to work with talking animals aimed at entertaining children?
All you elitists! Don't you realize it's a modern day adaptation of Milton's Paradise Lost?
Actually, my 4y.o. daughter thought this was the greatest thing ever put on film, I wouldn't mind it if any of this was actually part of the movie, but it'll probably be a predictable rich dog out of its element story.

I am simultaneously disgusted and charmed. I actually like the illustrative look to the rendering.
This might be worth seeing at a theater that serves alcohol. LOTS of alcohol. And a matinee.

I'd probably wouldn't go see this on my own, but my son would probably love it. Then again, he's not all there - He didn't seem to get Lord of the Rings at all!! 5 years old and we are so far apart in movie taste... Should probably take him to the doctor!

Oh good gravy. What a bunch of grumps.
It's not high art, but when I saw this trailer in a theatre, the kids lit up and loved it. It'll make decent money in the theatre, and its more work for everyone.
Nothing bad about that.
