I like the Audio.
Who is that guy in the beginning? Looks like Dreadlord, got the biggest pair of wings in the game, yet full of crap & can't fly.
Is the a better resolution version of the CG available?

Can someone who's got the video repost it somewhere?
Everysingle piece of CG i saw from Blizzard, maked me cry and laugh... This guys are really amazing at what they do!
They still uses 3Dmax? Or they they perhaps have migrated to other packages like Maya or XSI?
Does anyone knows???
And again a new url to the vid would be great...!
:Thanks:

The Blizzard movies are great, best ones I've ever seen.
But I havew not idea what these creatures can be, the story goes about the Lich King who is captered in a gletsjer 'The Frozen Throne' Arthas, the death knight and the (shame on me) *new Night Elf hero* have to reach the frozen throne to have his powers...
but I don't recognise anything of that in the movie

I think that guy in the intro is the semi-good guy hero that left his brother near the end of WarcraftIII in the game. YOu know, after he 'consumes' the skull that was corrupting the night elf woods, he is able to transform into a demon afterwoods, but his brother has problems with his delving into that kind of power, so his demon hunter brother runs off knocking down trees and stuff in his path.
I think it's him becomes the guy in the video, his eyes are bandaged like the demon hunter (they are physically blind), his hair is like the demon hunter and he looks like the demon hunter in transformed form.
And I bet those creatures he's awakening from the ocean are the race called Naga, not sure though :).

for the last time
BLIZZARD CINEMATICS ARE MADE PRIMARILY WITH 3DS MAX.
I say primarily to allow for any special occurances that may happen, but you can pretty much say that they are made with 3ds max.

A guy who works in the Blizzard cinematics department had said before that max (various versions) were used to produce all of the cutscenes for WarcraftIII and the promo preview of WoW that came with WarcraftIII. I think it was Max 2.? for the scene with human and orc fighting alone on the hillside, Max 3.? for the rest of the stuff, and Max 4.? for the WoW preview, all rendered by Max' scanline renderer too.
This was posted a few months after WIII came out and everyone was talking about it, I think all of the above info is right, having trouble finding it in the forums though :(.

yeah it was all really cool, I thought the bubbles were kind of stand out too, so was the water in a way, like a it was more like mountains of molasses moving around. But even in the best CG movies things still don't look quite perfect but still really cool anyways.

Looks good though, as usual.

I dont get the max grip ?? :shame: I use max for high poly modeling . It can do everything Maya can do . Max 5 is very stable it's only crashed a few times ... :shame:
nacho
05-21-2003, 04:33 AM
if you used Maya or Soft in production it would be very clear why there is so much negative ranting. I will say Max is better than Maya when it comes to modeling with polys.
but it's the artist in the end NOT the tool. thats why Blizz has better cineatics than Square or anyone else.
keep in mind Sqaure has 150-200 artists. Blizzard has 15-20 doing cinematics.

btw Thats Illidian for sure(in demon form)
also i saw a screenshot where a new elf heroine says "Illidian isnt an nightelve nor demon anymore...is more than just that"
so its him 4 sure
also , his voice is the same.
the movie is fantastic...i love his air(blizz can use shag hair like no one i know!) plus the sea is awesome. the only part i didnt liked was those sea-beast...those camera angles really sucked...to much still cameras.
But the illidian shots are great

I'm pretty sure they used Max 4 for all of trailers and cinematics, because discreet used to have some promotional video for Max 4 of Nick Carpenter (Cinematics Director) talking about how Max's features helped them achieve the look they wanted in the new trailers. I used to have it saved on my computer, but can't find it, or i'd post it. It was kinda cool.

If you are talking about WarcraftIII pre-expansion then no. Max 2.whatever was used for the lone human/orc fight scene, Max 3.whatever was used for all of the movie scenes in the game, and Max 4.whatever was used for the World of Warcraft preview. It's buried somehwere here at CGTAlk in the forums, but a guy who works in the Blizzard cinematics department had stated all of that.

So? I'm just telling you what an employee actually working at Blizzard in the cinematics dept. said. I think the guys name was John Burnett. I know that Blizzard has started to use Maya (I think), don't know about lightwave though. But for the War3 stuff it was all Max.

Hey! I found the thread and quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHO is operating the software is most important than WHAT software are they using to do...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All War3 cinematics were done using 3dsmax 3.1 and the built in renderer (with the exception of the intro showing the lone orc battling the human, which was done in 3dsmax 2.5). The World of Warcraft trailer was done in 3dsmax 4.0.
Thanks for all the kind comments, it's always great to hear a positive response after all the work we put into the movies =).
Cheers,
John

Indeed Warcraft 3 - reign of chaos was all MAX.
They "got" Maya when warcraft 3 was almost done. I doubt it Maya has been used for the expansion. (maybe for the WOW animations? Starcraft anyone? Who knows!)
ive seen screanshots and pictures of people at blizzard using lightwave and maya.
It has been said before that Lightwave is used by Pixar modellers too. Whatever gets the job done eh :)
Edit: Googlo, thanks for confirming :)

guys know that blizzard has two places right? the guys that are working on WOW are using maya ( as there was an ad for it a while ago for multiple jobs.. ( all which stated the knowledgeof maya ) not sure about the ghost game
but anyway . the division thats working on Warcraft are still max like the above post says.

Blizzard is like a big PostHouse ( ILM )
bud for games. And all big houses use
all, what makes a product better.
Maya and XSI has so much good tools.
And i think hehe, they use more than Max!

the wow cinematics are being produced within the cinematics dept, right now, they do all the cinematics for the games no matter which office / devteam is producing it.

I personally don't think WoW will have that many cg cinematics because its an mmorpg. Maybe and intro and one introducing the different areas, one for kalimdor ect.
Starcraft:Ghöst on the other hand will proberly get more since this is a single player story so they can use the Cgcinematics for help tell the story, just like in Starcraft.
But ofcause this is just guesses. :)

Hehe...too many of you are making assumptions. I always find it funny how so many people don't believe something good was done with MAX. For now just take John's quote for fact. He's been there since around 1998 and is quite in the know on the cinematics side.

If you have the opinion that a certain package(i.e. max) sux, it's quite alright, it just means that you just sux at using it, or have never even looked at it. I on the other hand can use both max and maya and am always looking to expand my knowledge. Let's not turn this post into a package war and remember that though max is underestimated by users of maya/xsi, it can still amaze me in what it's capable of. Blizz cins rock no matter what was used. It's always talent that counts. You can use shit and make a masterpiece made of shit as long as you have artistic talent.
