View Full Version : Vehicle+Env: Vespa in garden
This is a Vespa 180 Super Sport. The model is 90% made out of nurbs.
I made it to improve my nurbs modelling skills to generate high precision surfaces.
The render is done in the Maya 4.0 standard renderer without raytracing. All reflections are faked.
Everything green is a paint effect. :)

Have u modeled the rocks 2 ?
This is high profile work... congrats!
Is this possible with subd ? dunno if only nurbs can be perfect surfacing..
:) how many days on this ?

Excellent work, I'm glad you did the whole scene in CG instead of trying to compose it over a photo
Thanks.
Yes, the rocks are modeled, but there are just 6 different ones, and 6 pebbles wich were instanced with a particle emitter onto the ground.
Sure you could do this in subd - but the approach would be different I guess. No tools like lofting, birail and revolve etc. for subds.
I spend a lot of time on the vespa model, the background is done in about 3 days - I needed most time for the paint effects, because this is the first time I used them, and for tuning the lights.

neat pic. for some reason after seeing the subject though my brain desired a vespa in space thread. I'm sure it'll give up on that shortly....
looks cool, just that i think that you can add some reflections to it
and some dirt to the textures, well just an opinion, really nice model there!

great job on the modeling I would also agree though, that you should put a little wear and tear on the vespa. That always adds to an object.

the environment is very good..
and the model is great..
but you can add some dirt on the tires..
but it's an awesome work...
Yeah great render, I love it, the only thing I see it,s the sit looks stranger but really good work, congratulations :applause:

Looks good! The seat is the only thing that looks odd, for some reason the big spec highlight dosn't seem to match with the rest of the scene.

Looking good! Nice choice of subject too.
I agree with the seat comments..and a little wear would be nice to see in general. Maybe it's just ridiculously well maintained? Seems like an overcast day..kinda low contrast feeling. I think that's what's killing the shine of it..stronger sun on everything could punch the whole image up I think.
Now are you going to add the "P!" sticker, front fin, and 5656 license plate? :D
P.S. What did you use for reference? Was looking to model one of these, and looked around for blueprints, found some fantastic blown-apart-drawing schematics in a vespa user manual archive, but nothing really useful resembling front/side/etc. in the slightest.

Looking really good. :)
2 crits:
1) Surfacing of the seat looks plain wrong..probably cos the sides look so 'shiny'
2) When are you going to finish Daydream and let us see it?????? Excuses are not acceptable but the anim will be. :D
Thanks guys.
Ok, I see what you mean with the seat. Maybe I was so deep into creating 20 different chrome-shaders for all those tiny things that I oversaw the big seat. Doh.. But I don't think it's that wrong, take a look here : http://www.scooterstop.co.uk/ss180/myss/pics/done.jpg
hypercube: http://www.scooterstop.co.uk/ss180/home.html is a nice site, but you probably already found it.
And you're 100% right - I started loving the vespa after seeing FLCL, so wicked and cool. Everybody should watch it. I got me one of those action models of Haruko and her vespa as a reference - quite detailed. But I dislike the fin and those lights so I modelled a origninal vespa.
xyn: Well, aehmm, Daydream, you know ... I got halfway through it and then I started to dislike the script. It died together with my passion for 3dsMax (animating 2 days and then it just messes up my saved file, no thanks). End of the sad story. And I won't show half finished films, they're already hurting my ego enough this way. ;) Some screenshots are still on my website.
And another shot. No color correction on this one, straight from maya. Let's see what you can find ;)

Yup.. I saw them and had a look at Bad Idea which is why I was kinda hoping you would finish Daydream..oh well.
Seat really shouldn't have that much spec on the sides though..:D
ROFL.. how on earth could anyone loose their Passion for Max :bounce: .......anyone would think Di$creet would be capable of not doing a good job or something.

I really like the first render with the background. Will set as wallpaper soon (after I get sick of "35 CALO" a Down Town the night" )
 Thanks, that honours me. :bounce: Need a bigger resolution?

that is absolutely fantastic, so good in fact i got an account on this board...
i am doing a set of drawings (offline) of vespa scooters (for a party invite) and i am looking for high quality maya models to use as reference, does anybody know where i can quickly find (and or purchase) a model as fine as this?
