*EDITED* Please ignore this post and go directly to puzzledpaul's reply. He got a really easy and elegant (and fast) way to do this. I will now kill myself or something like that! :(

Hi all!

Recently while modelling a house, I got stuck with a problem similar to the one in the Create Edge/Face... (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61699) thread.

After a lot of banguing my head against the wall :banghead: I finally came up with a solution. :bounce:

This is what I am posting here.
I hope it can be of some help to others.

You can see the initial problem in (1).
Select the faces to "bridge" (2)
Extrude them with Extrude Region along the normal (3), just a little bit, to avoid the gap from closing completelly or having "crossed" faces until you got something like what you can see in (4).
Select the two edges shown in (5) and DELete them. (6)
This is very important! You have to delete this edges first or the result will be a mess. If you try to delete the verts shown in (7) first or the edge that connects them it won't work.
Next select the verts in (7) and DELete them to get what you can see in (8).
Now all you have to do is select the verts shown in (9) and DELete them to get the wanted result (10)

And that's it!

Best regards.

Doesn't using Dissolve / Connect offer a somewhat simpler solution?

Select faces to be ‘bridged’ -> Backspace (Dissolve) -> V (vert mode) -> C (connect)

I HATE YOU!!! :annoyed:

I've been trying to solve this problem for a while and when I found a solution you just show you have already solved it a long time ago in a easy, clean and elegant way.

I feel dumb.
I feel stupid.
I feel ridiculous.
I feel like deleting all the stuff I've made with wings.
I feel I should just make scenes out os boxes and spheres.
I feel ignorant.
I feel I should give up 3D.
I feel like going to delete my stupid post.

Thanks for the very useful tip pp.
You really know wings and modelling.

Best regards. :annoyed:

<< already solved ........easy, clean and elegant way. >>

It's just a slightly modified version of the dissolve/connect method mentioned (and linked) in the 'other' thread you mentioned - I was just a bit surprised to see the topic return - that's all :)

<< I feel like going to delete my stupid post >>

Last thing you should do, imo, as any information generally has merit and is often capable of 'sparking off' other ideas - sometimes along completely different paths.

I feel most of the other things in the presence of my 2 daughters :)

<< only 6 month old >>

Other (messy) end of the age spectrum - mine are 15 and 18yrs old - rather different issues to deal with :)

<< I hope you know I was just kidding! >>

Of course - I feel the same when I miss stuff - often because of being 'too close' to the problem :)

Haha, that PP is a smart cookie... :D

I still maintain that extrude region is the best route to take... need more detail just harden those edges, smooth once and have at er...

ah well, anyways, this was fun for all :D

have a good one eh :)
