I am looking for a way to create large crowd animations. Like 100s and thousands at once. It's something for myself. I know there are some high end AI softwares out there like Massive that can do this kind of thing. But unfortunatly, it's way too expensive for me. So i am looking for something smaller that could do the same thing. Maybe there is a script or a plug-in that could be used to create large crowds? Perferably in Maya? There has to be some sort of tool that allows you go apply same actions to various different characters. Is there not? Other than that, the only other way is to hand animate 100s and thousands of different characters.
But there is another way i can think of that is a bit easier. Animate like say 100 characters and then you duplicate them and composite them in like After FX or something. Since large crowds in such as Lord of the Rings look pretty much the same from Distance or medium shot, i think that will work, if you mix them up nicely. So that is my back up plan. But it'd be even nice if know of a tool/plug-in/script that allows you to create large crowd simulations.
