thats an invisible plane (invisible for camera and visible for GI solution) which should guide or bounce light in certain regions
and directions. White card cause it doesn't change light color..
hope this helps :)

so what is this "invisible plane"?
how can we create this invisible plane?
Thank you for your answer!
I only know how to do this in 3ds max:
1. get the properties for the object you want not to be visible to the camera (right click - properties)
2. uncheck the option "visible to camera" (might be called something different - not in front of max right now).
Good luck :)

In Maya it would be the Primary Visibility on the Plane Attribute Editor.

In C4D you can do this by putting a composition tag on the bounce object,
checking "Seen by rays" and "seen by GI", and unchecking "seen by camera".
