Hey there !
I'm sorry you did not get any reply, but, since this IS a forum, chances are this topic might have been discussed already, i would have suggested that you perform a search : just searching the Max forum with the word "hair" returned around 130 threads, among almost half of these refering to Shag:Hair plugin, so maybe looking up this plugin might be a good start.
Then, chances are also that among these 100 or so thread about "hair", at least one would give you links to a tutorial.
