Ok, so some of the guys on fxphd had a great idea of creating a Flickr pool for matte painting image resources. Essentially an "open source" alternative to stock photography for those people who do matte painting. The more people in the group, the more people to submit images and the heathier the community is. It is brand new so there are only a few images right now but we would like to change that.

The images should be above 2k.

I think this is a great idea for artist around the world, I will upload some photos for sure! could they be like specific folders to upload (i.e. skies, rocks, mountains , architecture etc ) ? or just artist uploading libraries?

It requires a lot less work to organize things.

whoa, that is a -great- idea. god knows how much time I spend surving the sites of sxc.hu trying to find somewhat feasible stock photography, and most of the time the quality is so low.
sounds like I will have to sign up on flickr soon as well :D

I just added a bunch to the pool - a random assortment of a little bit of everything, most from a canon 5D. They will need cleanup since the sensor was dirty on some of the images, or they were taken through spotted glass etc. but hey they are free to use as you see fit.

enjoy!

PS: The group doesnt seem to be showing all the results, so you can go directly to the link below to see all 146 items:

I just realized that my 24-105 lens which is my main lens for that sort of stuff is back-focusing so all the shots are a bit blurrier than they should be.. oh well.. I'l have to get it calibrated asap. There goes another 150 bucks..

I have tons more shots I'll upload when I get around to.

Do not take it into a shop until you have checked the CCD/CMOS sensor. You may have dust, or oil problem. This can confuse autofocus. Have a look at the ring on the camera where you mount the lens. It could be slightly bent then it needs repair. Check the focus ring runs smooth and there is no grit in it. If you hear grit stop immediately and secure with tape marking on there were the noise is from. If it is integrated compound lens that cannot come of the camera that could be bent.

Camera shops love people with focus problems as they can and will charge the earth for a simple repair, cleaning task.

Rich,

Thanks for the tips! - my tamron 90mm and canon 100-400 are much crispier, so I'm thinking its the lens for sure. Also the same lens is blurry on my 350D. Yes the 90mm prime is going to be sharper than a zoom, but no way the other lenses should be noticeably sharper - they are both L glass for pete's sake. I did a series of tests to make sure, and even my old 400 dollar Tameron 28-75 is now taking tighter shots than the Canon which costs over 3 times as much!

For everyone else who has joined it would be great if other people would add some images. We have only 3 people who have added so far.

Yes, but I couldn´t upload the images in their original size without a pro account. Only 1024x768... don´t know why.

In the terms said that only pro account to upload the images in their original size...

Anyway, it´s done :D

Hi there again,

I´ve watched that the matte painting group in the flickr gallery have 62 members and only 5 of them have been posting images so I´d like to encourage to all members to add some images to continue creating a great place to share the pictures.

Greetings!
