This is my first 3D competition which took Second Prize Winner from cgArena "Ancient Time" challenge.
In general, gladiators were condemned criminals, prisoners of war, or slaves bought for the purpose of gladiatorial combat. Professional gladiators were free men who volunteered to participate in the games.
This image is modeled in Maya 2008 and rendered with Mental Ray. It is fully 3D from the models, CG sky, environment, effects and atmosphere with a combination of dynamic particles to achieved the desired effects as well as the crowd made with particles intancer. After effects also helps me to give the image an epical look and feel.
