Hi all,

I would like to ask for advice on what to get (budget for machine(s) only, no monitor, peripherals, etc) for US$3000 ?

Context: use of photoshop, after effects, cinema 4d, maya, primary use for video production/animation/rendering.

I'm new to the 3d/animation world and would like to know what the gurus in this forum would suggest... right now I am suffering with my single production station being by beaten up macbook (yes, it's laughable). My goal is to get as "professional" grade of a setup as possible. Oh and I prefer macs to pcs, however, I have no clue performance wise what would be the best option these days. Anyone?

Thanks in advance!

Since you like Macs, and you're using C4D, why not just get a Mac Pro? You already know them, and you wont have to change licenses on your software (Adobe products for example...) And since you do alot of editing, why lock yourself out from FCP?

There's really no difference between PC hardware and Mac hardware these days, as they both use exactly the same parts, minus a few chips here and there... (EFI to replace system BIOS, and BIOS chips on the graphics card that lock out 3rd party cards from OSX...)
