View Full Version : X-Men 2: Nightcrawler Effect

Hi, after seeing X-Men 2 I want to try the effect of teleporting like Nightcrawler did. I am fine with a person disappearing and appearing but I can't seem to get the smoke right after the teleport. If you saw the movie then you know what it looks like, dark purple and black with a lot of movement. Can any of you recommend what particle system to use and how to manipulate it right? It doesns't have to be exact, just the basic idea of the movie. Also if anyone can help on a texture then that would be great too, but not needed.
Edit: I am using Max 4.2

Instead of making your person just disappear, could you switch the texture with a procedural 3d smoke one?
I'm not sure if this would work, it's just a suggestion.

I think that would work but my goal right now is to create the smoke in 3Ds Max and then composite it into the video in Adobe After Effects. I am much better AE than 3D Max. All I really need is convincing wispy purple smoke to put over the disappearing in AE.
