View Full Version : gally- last order style
eternal01 05-06-2008, 07:28 PM Hello all!
I'm entering this challenge! It's my first hardcore modelling challenge, but I'll give it a try. I love Yukito Kishiro's work so I'm gonna try to do Gally, but in the last order style.
I'm used to do pretty low polygon, so it'll be a doubly new experience as I want to model as many details as possible ^-^
Here is my main reference image

Let's see what I'll be able to do
So far, I got the legs done

I love that on this forum one can say something like "Nice legs" and get away with it... :D
You might want to thin the top part of the thigh just slightly. If you look at the manga page, her pants are just slightly thinner than the leg-warmers covering them. It might also help to make that division sharper, since the leg-warmers and the pants are two completely seperate garments.
Is this from the Battle Angel Alita series? If so, then if you feel like deviating from the reference you have great potential to tie this in with the theme of the challenge by having an arm off and exposed machinery and such. Lord knows that happens a good bit in the comic.
Good luck with the rest of her; you're off to a nice start!

Wow, this will be amazing when you finish!
I finished reading the first manga series and then last order about 4 months ago and really loved them... although I didn't really love how last order ended, I must say...
Either way, I love Alita, and I'll be following this one! :)

Hello! thanks for the comments
chrisbeaver,
I rearranged the smoothing groups to make things sharper. The image is from battle angel Alita (I'm french canadian, so I read them in french, so that the name is gunnm and her name is Gally....) It's from last order, though. The "follow-up" of gunnm.
JeffreySG,
I'm curious.. how many last order is there?
I reworked the legs a little to add some details as well as continued the top part, but I still need to work more on it. I'm still trying to go against my need to be as low poly as I can...

I was trying to get the face following my construction but I decided to work on it separately in the end. I made a base figure and then tried to shape it more like Gally's. Although this is all still work in progress.

Looks good! The part of the legs where the pants(?) end, that crease could be a little sharper like in the reference. Other than that looks good! Good luck

So what does the rest of her look like or will you be lighting her in shadow like the reference? :D
Looks good so far. The strap from the pants around the boots is a nice design touch.
