View Full Version : improving preview performance
mooncry 05-03-2008, 06:32 AM hi guys, id like to know how can i improve AE preview performance, when i work i usually set my resolution to half, sometimes quarter, so i could move faster, my video card is geforce 9600Gt 512mb GDDR3, how do i optimize my card? i have enabled open gl on preview preferences, accelerated effects using adaptive resolution, when i click open gl info, theres settings on texture memory and quality set to faster, what should i set on the texture memory?

Umm, no offence, but any such attempt would be feeblish and pointless. You simply do not seem to understand what OpenGL does/ is supposed to do/ can do. Your slow previews certainly cannot be accelerated by tweaking OpenGL settings, otherwise they'd already be hellishly fast. Straight to the point: whenever you use effects that are not hardware accelerated, you break OpenGL rendering and AE will resort to plain software rendering. so unless you get rid of any such effects in your stack, you will have to live with the current level of performance.

If you don't have complex 3D setups with lots of textures mapped to it, OpenGL does do nothing, as already mentioned. If you have complex (sub)compositions and want an easy way to better your preview performance you surely must take a look at GridIron Nucleo Pro 2. It can collapse comps for you in the background over multiple cores and still lets you keep on working...You'll need a multicore processor of course !!
