View Full Version : character studio - moving the biped?
Hey all, I've only being using cs for a short time, and was wondering if anyone can help me with a small problem.
I have animated my characters feet, so keyframes are set in the leg links, but now I want to move the biped forward and also rotate it to add the forward and turning motion, but when I do this, the legs fall (stay) behind. How do I correct this? I need to animate, so it has to be in a (animatable) method.
Thanks in advance.

You say that when you move the "body", i assume that you're moving the COM, the legs stay behind ? Like, the actually detach from the rest of the biped ?
If so, it looks like you're still in Figure Mode, which is used only to pose and adapt the biped to your mesh, once your biped is set up, prior animating, you must get out of Figure Mode.

No, I'm not in figure mode, I've animated the feet, then when I move (bip01) the diamond, the feet stay put and then the legs twist and arggh! it goes mad.
Hope that clarifys it a bit.

Hi VFX,
Sounds like you have planted keys on the feet.
You will need to set free keys for the feet and then the legs will move too.

Hi VFX,
The far right icon/button is the set free key.
I think they go (from memory) set key, set planted, set sliding, set free.
Set the free key right after you put the last planted key on your feet. Your animation will still be fine as long as you don't set it over the top of your planted keys.
Cheers
