View Full Version : Maya 5 bugs?
Levitateme 05-15-2003, 08:06 AM I have found at least 2 bugs in maya 5. i am positive its nothing i did. i have exported my character as OBJ and imported i get the same error. i also started new scenes and tried on like a sphere i get the same error.
1. when i try and extract or seperate a face i get this error>
Error: Character has only one piece. Ignored.
2. my ik is not staying with my joints, its just staying were it is. it is not moving along with my joints. i have done leg setups countless timesin earlier versions of maya. i never had this problem. i attached a pic, i am using jason schliefers siggraph lecture notes to setup my rig

Select the IK handle and go to the Attribute Editor
- IK handle attributes tabs
- set the "stickiness" to "sticky"
I think thats what you need to do.

levitateme,
it's been a few months since i used maya, but i think that is what is supposed to happen with the ik. at least, i think that is what i have always seen when i used ik. maybe i have been missing something this whole time in regards to the 'stickiness' kabob refered to.
as far as the 'ik/fx enabled' goes. i think you are actually switching off the ik (maybe only for selected ik). but, i think this has the same effect as if they're were no ik at all (again this maybe on a per ik handle basis).
that's my 2 cents. but i'd love to know if there is something i've been missing

It is true that in Maya 5, the IK handle doesn't automatically snap back to the joint, but I don't think it's a bug, because now that you can blend IK and FK, the IK handle isn't supposed to always stick to the joint. Anyway, you can manually snap the IK handle back to the joint by selecting Animate -> IK/FK Keys -> Move FK to IK.
